Traffic Control after Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS (TV story)

Edits are likely to spike during the next couple of days. Just a heads up to admins and moderators to keep an extra eye on this page due to the content featured in the TARDIS ep. I would point out that the main image could potentially be updated along with a couple of minor references from the same story.

Sincerely, Scott Davidson (TheRedGoldfish - cba signing in)

Removed behind the scenes section[[edit source]]

May as well move this here, until it can be updated with Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS information. The Doctor introduces it simply as "the Eye of Harmony". -- Tybort (talk page) 18:17, April 28, 2013 (UTC)

No explanation of how the Eye of Harmony could exist in two places at once exists on-screen. A popular fan explanation states that each TARDIS had a link to the actual Eye of Harmony (possibly in the same way the Time Lords transmitted energy from Gallifrey to the TARDIS in TV: The Three Doctors). The BBC official guide to Doctor Who confirms this, and states that, following the destruction of Gallifrey, the Doctor's TARDIS now powers itself with the energy from time rifts. The Eight Doctors explains:

It wasn't the Eye of Harmony at all of course, not really. Just a symbolic manifestation, an aspect, of the Great Eye of Harmony on Gallifrey. The Eight Doctors

To expand a bit more on why I removed it, though the phrase "Eye of Harmony" appears exactly zero times in Boom Town, it's kind of inferred from it that, as the "official guide" says, the TARDIS didn't use the Eye and only powered from time rifts, but then we actually see it eight years and a production team change later in Journey when Gallifrey is still gone and the Time War is mentioned something like three times that year.
By the by, what publication or webpage is "official guide" referring to? -- Tybort (talk page) 19:26, September 26, 2013 (UTC)

Editing Change?[[edit source]]

These somehow have to be reconciled:

An aspect of the Eye of Harmony existed within the Doctor's TARDIS during his seventh and eighth incarnation and after the destruction of Gallifrey during his eleventh incarnation.

and

All TARDISes built after a certain point, including the Type 40 the Doctor used, had a mathematically modelled duplicate of the Eye with all its attendant features.

The first sentence makes it sound like the Eye of Harmony ONLY existed in the TARDIS during the incarnation of the Seventh, Eighth and Eleventh Doctors when, clearly, it must have always been there, it didn't come and go. These are only the episodes when it was shown on-screen. Badwolff 22:41, May 27, 2013 (UTC)

It's more "makes it sound" than actually saying that only the Doctor's TARDIS uses a duplicate. It's just poor wording, really. Though the way it's presented in Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS (including, I'd argue, directly contradicting the TARDIS needing a means of recharging in Boom Town and Utopia) is a little problematic, the two sentences themselves aren't really in conflict. The only TARDIS shown in the TV movie is the Doctor's, while several episodes make it clear that by the time of Journey the Doctor's TARDIS is the last working TARDIS. -- Tybort (talk page) 19:18, September 26, 2013 (UTC)
There's a quote in the tele-movie which goes something along the lines of the Eye having not been able to have been opened in seven hundred years, which strongly suggests that the thing in the Doctor's TARDIS which essentially trapped the Master was around when the Doctor stole the TARDIS.
Nonetheless, I think we need to either rewrite the bit about "an aspect" or rework the entire page and explain that the concept appears to refer to an object inside at least the Doctor's TARDIS AND a power source on the planet Gallifrey. Regardless of The Eight Doctors quote further up this talk page or the "mathematically modelled duplicate" quote, the text of the tele-movie and Journey (which this wiki's policies consider to hold equally as much weight as a novel) refer to it as the Eye of Harmony and nothing else. -- Tybort (talk page) 18:32, February 16, 2014 (UTC)

TARDIS Eye named after the Deadly Assassin Eye[[edit source]]

This point User:CzechOut made on Talk:Time Vortex might be useful in helping reconcile the TVM/Journey Eye with the other one in the Panopticon. -- Tybort (talk page) 17:28, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

...and though the Eye does a ton of things in that story, its main description was as a power source, I thought? -- Tybort (talk page) 01:18, February 19, 2014 (UTC)
The Novel of the Film has a very interesting spin on this, actually. Gary Russell just couldn't do a literal translation of the script.
TVM Novel
Grace: What's the Eye of Harmony?
Eighth Doctor: It's the power source at the heart of the TARDIS.
[The scene at left is also replicated in the book. However the book contains this very interesting exchange, which, since it is not disputed by the script, must be taken as the final word on the matter by this wiki.]

The Master smiled. ‘It is known as the Eye of Harmony, named after a massive power source back at my home. It powers the TARDIS and everything in it. These beams of Artron energy are what keep everything flowing smoothly, and the Eye is keyed to the biorhythms of both the ship and its... its operator.’

See the clever thing that Russell did there? Named after means that it's not literally the Eye of Harmony. But I suppose Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS has now made this all murky again.

I don't know why it wasn't done before, but I've added reference to this quote in the body of the article. --Scrooge MacDuck 12:00, June 22, 2019 (UTC)
