Shadow of the Daleks Placement[[edit source]]
Is there a reason why all stories from both 'Shadow of the Daleks' audio releases are placed within the Fifth Doctor's break from his companions on this page, yet it is placed under his time away from Peri & Erimem (explained away in The Veiled Leopard I think) on his timeline theory page? I'm aware there is little evidence given in the releases (at least one reference to Tegan maybe?), but the cover artwork clearly shows the Fifth Doctor in his Season 21 costume, something he is not wearing in any other releases depicting the Doctor's travels with Nyssa Tegan & Marc/Marcipor. I have not edited the Fifth Doctor's page as I'd like to hear anyone else's thoughts on this. Many thanks :) BritShadow 11:03, September 10, 2021 (UTC)
- There’s no particular reason, but this page and the timeline page don’t have to match up. There is a line somewhere in Shadow of the Daleks that implies he’s still travelling with Tegan. And he’s actually in his original costume of the cover of Shadow of the Daleks 2. BF often use random pictures on their covers, like there’s loads of covers from his period travelling with only Nyssa between Seasons 19 and 20 where he’s got the Season 21 costume. - True...thinking about it, the Seventh Doctor has definitely had some inconsistencies cover wise (like Subterfuge identifying an older appearance within the story but depicting a younger appearance on the cover). I guess it is all down to interpretation at the end of the day, though I guess my brain is just so used to making sure everything is consistent. As I said earlier, I won't edit anything but thank you for your input SarahJaneFan. BritShadow 19:28, September 10, 2021 (UTC)
- This might be a good place for me to wonder why people think a character's outfits are a method for story placement. Shambala108 ☎ 20:59, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
- I think it might just be a subconscious result of the show having specific wardrobes for specific seasons. Like, logically we all know they are just clothes that the character can change at any time, but because they didn't in the show, it just sort of doesn't compute? Though in saying that, I didn't even realise the Fifth Doctor had changed his outfit during his run, so what do I know? LauraBatham ☎ 05:17, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
I'm gonna separate my replies, since the conversation went two ways before I had time to reply sooner;
Reply on timeline updates to pages The honest answer is that the wiki biography pages ans timeline pages aren't in sync due to no one updating the biography pages with the timelines. I used to it frequently, but then I got a fulltime job that limited my editing time and no one else was interested in updating the biographies when the timelines pages were updated. I am planning on updating my sandboxes once editing on the timelines has quieted down, since I use them to include NOTVALID stories, and then updating the main wiki pages, sans the invalid stories.
Reply on cover clothing User:LauraBatham is pretty right on the money there. I know I at least check the clothing first when thinking when a story takes place, then check to see if there's any more concrete evidence once I start editing the timeline pages. Usually, if I can't find anything else in the story, I just go with the clothes until another editer finds evidence for a placement that I overlooked.
Thins concludes my replies. Sincerely, BananaClownMan 01:49, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
