Talk:Harry Osgood
Contested first name[[edit source]]
The history of this page suggests that the use of the first name, Harry, which only appears in the novelisation, was contested. Recently, Shambala108 pointed out that the move from Osgood (The Seeds of Death) to Harry Osgood was not performed by an admin. Given this, it might make sense to record this concern on the talk page and try to resolve it.
Facts are as follows: In TV: The Seeds of Death no first name was mentioned. He is always called Osgood. He has no appearances in other stories. But the TV story was novelised. And this novelisation named him Harry Osgood. The contested issue is: how prominently should Harry be featured outside of the BTS section.
I found the following discussion thread that is directly relevant to the situation: Characters named only in novelisations. The first important thing mentioned there by CzechOut is that novelisations are valid but secondary sources compared to any other kind of story.
Based on that, CzechOut says: when you have one name, then T:ONE NAME takes precedence. The rationale given by CzechOut is: "you're talking about changing the name that they're known by in the primary source versus one that they're not known by at all."
To summarize, it appears that the Wikia's policy as stated by senior admins is that characters with last name given in the primary story(ies) and with first name given exclusively in the novelisation(s) should be named by the last name only with the dab term chosen according to T:ONE NAME. This would mean renaming this page back to Osgood (The Seeds of Death). Amorkuz ☎ 13:12, March 20, 2016 (UTC)
