Talk:List of LGBT Characters

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Deletion[[edit source]]

Please explain why this page was deleted. I made sure to include links and while I acknowledge that this list was not complete, I was hoping that you guys could finish this. The only possible reason I could see for deleting this page was homophobia. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.5.125.183 (talk • contribs) .

This page was (and will continue to be) deleted because we don't make pages of lists of character traits like that. And your accusations of homophobia are a blatant violation of Tardis:No personal attacks. Please read that policy before you make any more edits on this wiki. I apologize if I came off as attacking. I did not know who deleted the page and did not intend to target anyone. I have some social anxiety problems and I will try my hardest to make my point much more clear.
But, I still don't see why we can't do pages about character traits. Won't that make more pages for this wiki, therefore increasing traffic, and the revenue that comes from that? Plus, even if it's not necessary, shouldn't we just include it to make LGBT+ people more welcome? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.5.125.183 (talk • contribs) .
I mean I think we shouldn’t delete these character traits so maybe put it back up The preceding unsigned comment was added by The doctor of who?cirkd, rik (talk • contribs) .
It’s not a personal attack The preceding unsigned comment was added by The doctor of who?cirkd, rik (talk • contribs) .
Please sign your comments with the four tildes. And again, we don't do lists like this. The Wikia is plentifully welcoming to all people already. A list like that isn't needed for that. We don't do lists on Black characters, white characters, Dwarf characters, handicapped characters etc. either. Traits of characters are listed under the "Traits" section on characters' pages. --DCLM 19:56, December 12, 2019 (UTC)
More to the point, if we had a list-type thing — that is to say, a way to see all LGBT characters in the Whoniverse — it would be a Category:LGBTQ+ characters category or something. --Scrooge MacDuck 20:14, December 12, 2019 (UTC)
That would actually be more fitting. And I don't personally see a problem with such a category. --DCLM 20:16, December 12, 2019 (UTC)
I don't have time to deal with this now, but there is to be no creating of such a category. I will explain when I have more time. Shambala108 20:28, December 12, 2019 (UTC)
This is the last I'm going to post on this, having started the discussion, but I really do not see why this cannot happen. This wiki has pages literally dedicated to farting, penis gourds, and f*ck buddies. This fandom is welcoming and inclusive, and all I wanted to do was make this wiki as inclusive as the fandom. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.5.125.183 (talk • contribs) .
@Shambala: Reply at your leisure. The above was a hypothetical ("if we had such a list, it'd be a category, not a plain list page, anyway, because tha is how we do lists"), not a call to arms. --Scrooge MacDuck 20:40, December 12, 2019 (UTC)
Those are not lists, but objects/terms/etc. within the DW-universe. Also, I explained above we don't do these types of lists. You are welcome to edit the Wikia just as everyone else, but there are guidelines, rules and policies that needs following. --DCLM 20:46, December 12, 2019 (UTC)

OK a few things:

  • Most importantly, calling someone homophobic is a personal attack by the definition of this wiki. Since I have cited the policy above, everyone reading this page is responsible for following it. Not reading it won't be a valid excuse, and any more attacks based on what we do or don't allow will be met with a lengthy block.
  • We are an encyclopedia, which means we write articles. We do sometimes use lists, but they are not to be used unless necessary. We will not be making lists of any kind of character traits.
  • As for creating the categories, that needs to be addressed in the forums. Here is the reason why: we used to have a policy not to allow such categories for various good reasons. In recent years, however, this idea has been revisited, but nothing has been resolved yet. And for some reason the original policies seem to have been deleted from the wiki. This idea was discussed a while back but mostly abandoned for now. Anyone wishing to discuss this should probably just start a brand new thread in Board:The Panopticon.
  • Lastly, if you want to know who deleted a page or why, the first place to check is Special:Recentchanges. That will tell you which admin deleted it, and if no reason was given, you can ask on their talk page.
