Talk:Magnus (Divided Loyalties)
Merging[[edit source]]
With regards to the possibility of merging this into Magnus (Flashback) — the thing is that within Flashback, Magnus is not intended to be an incarnation of the War Chief; he's intended to be an incarnation of the Master, though not confirmed as such. Furthermore, Flashback is quite clear that he's not in his first incarnation, so even if the young Magnus of Divided Loyalties is the same Time Lord, they're not the same incarnation.
To me, this opens us up to the possibility of treating all this bag of knots in the same modular way pioneered by User:TheChampionOfTime with the First Monk-as-Sixth-Master stuff: an incarnation page for a character who may be an incarnation of X, or an incarnation of Y. So we have:
- Edward Brayshaw's War Chief who may be an incarnation of the Master or an incarnation of Magnus (Divided Loyalties);
- Magnus (Flashback) who may be an incarnation of Magnus (Divided Loyalties) or not.
That seems about as elegant as we're going to get with this mess.
I suppose if we really wanted to do things by the book we should create yet a third Magnus page, about Russell's purported Time Lord in the first place — as distinct from his Deca incarnation —, but that seems perhaps a bit much.
(I'm undecided on whether the Invasion of the Cat-People allusion to Magnus should be leant on as a hint for Flashbak!Magnus being the Master or if it's too vague. Also, we should probably create Felix Kriegslieter as a separate incarnation page to refocus the current WC page on Brayshaw's incarnation specifically.) - Great points. After some collaborative mulling-over, the argument that finally made me see your point of view was that there are two distinct Time Lords in play, built out of overlapping puzzle pieces:
- Purported incarnations of The Master: Flashback Magnus, Edward Brayshaw's War Chief, Delgado & co
- Purported incarnations of [Unnamed Time Lord]: Deca Magnus, Flashback Magnus, Edward Brayshaw's War Chief, and Felix Kriegslieter
- It makes sense that (a) the shared chunks should get individual pages and (b) each of the distinct Time Lords should get their own pages. This is consistent with the principles I applied in the comparable case of K'anpo Rimpoche at Talk:Ansillon. So to move us closer to that ideal, it makes sense that the Flashback Magnus chunk (which is shared between the two Time Lords) should be separated from the not-shared Deca (Divided Loyalties) Magnus chunk.
