"The Monks" or "Monk (species)"[[edit source]]

Per T:NAMING, I would say that this should be Monk (species), not "The Monks]". Unless the name refers to a group, sect or organisation, I would assume, with the information we have so far, we are taking about a species. As long as you can say "a Monk", with regards to these creatures, this page should absolutely be moved there.

I agree with you, however, I suspect that we may be getting a different name relatively soon. So I wouldn't rush such a renaming. OS25 (Talk) 04:25, May 22, 2017 (UTC)
Moffat had said that he couldn't reveal the real names of the Monk, but the three parter is over and the Monks is all we got. As they invaded before according to Missy, I think Monks (species) is a good rename. StevieGLiverpool 22:03, June 3, 2017 (UTC)
To be clear, we're talking Monk (species): singular, not plural.

Yeah I mean Monk (species), Monks was a typo. StevieGLiverpool 23:40, June 3, 2017 (UTC)
Agreed with Monk (species).  bwburke94  (wall)  (bot)  21:13, July 5, 2017 (UTC)
Shouldn't this have been changed by now? StevieGLiverpool 14:32, August 2, 2018 (UTC)
Has this been dropped or are we waiting for more people to voice their concerns/opinions on this? --DCLM 20:05, January 9, 2019 (UTC)
I think it's just been forgotten. Any last-minute arguments?

Veritas[[edit source]]

Now that we're pretty much in agreement that the Veritas are not the Monks, I think it's a fine idea to discuss the similarities and differences in the behind-the-scenes section of this article. OS25 (Talk) 05:39, June 4, 2017 (UTC)

Sentience[[edit source]]

I am readding this topic because I never got a response to it.

It is debatable whether the people actually gained sentience because they could have just been following the program still.Like the program predicted that if people did find out they weren't real and were part of a program they would kill themselves.Of course this wasn't how the Monks intended the program too work because the real people on Earth aren't programs and thus such a situation wouldn't occur but it was inevitably part of the simulation due to it not being an completely accurate depiction of Earth.

The real Doctor would likely have done the same thing as the Doctor they made when finding out about the monks plan if he found out he wasn't real so again this was potentially just part of the program but the Monks weren't expecting the Doctor to defeat them in the simulation in such a way that the real Doctor would find out about them. It is worth noting it is actually impossible to work out whether something is sentient without being the person.
