Talk:Robert Fulton

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Name[[edit source]]

While Robert Fulton is the character's real-world name, it is never given in the novel he appears in. As such, I do not believe the page could be renamed to Robert Fulton . . . unless anyone knows of a source where his full name is given? He's a notable enough historical figure that it would be possible for him to have been name-dropped at some point. Schreibenheimer 11:58, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

Luckily, for characters who exist in the real world, using the real world full name is generally accepted on the proviso that a {{conjecture}} tamplate is used. So we can have the page named Robert Fulton despite not having a DWU stating it; and if a valid source eventually identifies Robert, then that's even better. 12:14, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
Epsilon is correct in theory, but I'm not sure we need to go into conjecture if (as seems to be the case here) there is no disambiguating issue even with the incomplete name. Scrooge MacDuck 13:26, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
But nevertheless, in my opinion at least, it makes the page feel more definitive if a full name is used. It makes it seem more well-researched. Plus it would improve searchablitity. 13:38, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
There is another Fulton from the novel Mind of Stone, so I'm not sure it's accurate to say there's no disambiguating issue. Schreibenheimer 14:20, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, that plus searchability seems reason enough for a rename. – n8 () 16:46, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

Considering there are other Fultons in the DWU, a rename is appropriate. As per per T:MOVE LOCK and T:LOCAL RULES, I've moved the pages and changed the respective links.
