Talk:Season 1 (Doctor Who 1963)
Point moved from article here[[edit source]]
When I encountered it, article read:
- Season 1 was the last season before Season 6 to retain the same core cast members for an entire series.
The importance of this is highly debatable. In the first place, it's unclear what "core cast" might mean. One could certainly argue that the "core cast" of the Troughton era is Troughton and Hines, and everyone else during that period is secondary cast.
But the main deal is that the late 1960s simply had a different structure. In seasons 3, 4 and 5, a new companion team were introduced in the final story of the season. They then ran until the penultimate story of the next season. So the "core casts" lasted for a whole season, but were simply offset by a single story.
