Talk:Spider Dalek (TV story)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Proof[[edit source]]

Spider Dalek was a story presented through test footage. This video is the story as broadcast on GamesMaster in 1995: (link removed due to a violation of T:VID LINK) The preceding unsigned comment was added by Borisashton (talk • contribs) 16:51, April 12, 2017.

Is there any evidence other than a YouTube video? CoT ? 17:42, April 12, 2017 (UTC)
Looking at the various forums discussing the GamesMaster Spider Dalek "story", it would appear that it is just test footage. In my opinion, that makes this no different than a piece of concept art, meaning this is not a story. CoT ? 17:54, April 12, 2017 (UTC)
I suspect Doctor Who: Regeneration probably contains a wealth of info on the development of the Spider Daleks. If anyone has a copy, that could probably be used to source this information in the BTS of the Dalek article, but I don't think forums or YouTube videos can be used to cite things. I do think we should have an article discussing the design and how it inspired further Dalek fiction, but the article is blatantly misguided in its approach. OS25 (Talk) 20:34, April 12, 2017 (UTC)

Here's what I've been able to find out: this was released on DVD, under the title FX test reels. So if we rename it FX test reels (homevid) and rewrite it to merely discuss the footage and how it impacted fans and future secondary media, I think the page can stay. But right now it's rampant with incited speculation. OS25 (Talk) 09:31, April 18, 2017 (UTC)

Name[[edit source]]

The menu with the test reels, the Spider Dalek one is in the middle.

Is the proposed name of this article correct? I checked the DVD of the TV movie and found the special feature referenced above and its called "VFX Tests June 1994", not FX test reels so I propose the page is moved to "VFX Tests June 1994 (home video)" or something similar instead. --Borisashton 17:45, June 10, 2017 (UTC)

Well this is not a story, for one, so no need for a DAB. Second off, since according to that screen there are two VFX tests featured on the DVD, if we were to have a page on this it would be best to simply keep them both on one page and consider it a "part 1" and a "part 2". The March tests are just parts of the TV Movie with different effects. I wouldn't really call it a part two. --Borisashton 18:10, June 10, 2017 (UTC)
Although it is true that dab terms aren't necessarily required, they're tidier to have, I think. At any rate, I agree with Boris that there's no sense in having a page about the other set of VFX tests. The thing we're thus far calling Spider Dalek is notable because it's a wholly original (but unfinished) work. --Scrooge MacDuck 13:58, November 20, 2019 (UTC)
