Talk:Cybermen: Status Update (short story)

Proposed Rename[[edit source]]

Having read this story myself, I see no reason why this page needs renaming. The full name of the story, as displayed at the beginning of the story, is Cybermen: Status Update. As we omit prefixes unless they're necessary to distinguish from an otherwise identically-named page - which isn't necessary here - this page's name is correct and doesn't need changing. I'll wait a while for a response, but if nobody responds, or an unexpected development occurs in this discussion, I'll take down the rename tag. Thalek Prime Overseer 15:07, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

Actually you can't take down the rename tag. Rename tags usually prompt discussion, and generally it's better for admins to close discussions (otherwise we'd have to allow IP users and brand new uninitiated users to close discussions). Since only admins are permitted to rename pages, it's best to make your arguments and let the admins make the final decision thanks Shambala108 01:35, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

Ah, sorry for jumping the gun a bit there. I'll leave the rename tag as it is until this is resolved by an admin. Thalek Prime Overseer 12:32, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

It is best practice to leave the {{rename}} tag up, as user:Shambala108 said, to make sure an admin can see the tag and verify that precedent is being followed here. So let's have a look. In this case, precedent is indeed clear. First we removed Doctor Who and Torchwood as prefixes, then we came around to remove UNIT, as well, from Assembled and the like. As user:Thalek Prime Overseer correctly noted, that was because there was no conflict with other anthologies of the same name. The original discussion took place at Thread:116217 (currently inaccessible) and Forum:Doctor Who prefix in titles. Can't actually read the closing post, but the gist was that prefixes should be removed, barring the need for disambiguation.
As pointed out above, correctly as it turns out, "Status Update (short story)" is entirely in line with policy. If someone has a novel argument for "Cybermen: Status Update (short story)", with an image of the page in question perhaps, feel free to re-start this conversation later on. In the meantime, with current evidence in mind, removing the {{rename}} tag.

As it turns out, there is a second little nugget here. I'm keeping the rename tag up for now. I'm not really sure where to find this story? It was released on an app? Could someone with easier access please confirm if "Status Update" or "A Status Update" is correct?

This story was released in the Doctor Who: Cybermen Monster File app in 2014. I've got it up right now on my phone, as it can be bought on the iOS Books app. The story is one of two chapters in the app (the first chapter being titled "Cyber File", the part of the app which, if I'm correct, is considered non-valid by the wiki's rules, as it frequently breaks the fourth wall). So it seems that the full title, with the correct grammar, is Chapter 2 Cybermen: Status Update. There's no "A" before "Status Update", and "Chapter 2" is also a prefix so we wouldn't include it in the page's name. Thalek Prime Overseer 14:31, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

I'm looking at a preview in the Apple Books app now as well. If the previous "chapter" isn't prefixed with "Cybermen", then I'm no longer entirely convinced this is a series name. Generally speaking, something more in the vein of Abslom Daak... Dalek Killer wouldn't be truncated, making this one "Cybermen: Status Update", potentially. Chapter 2 should definitely be left out, however.

I've checked the name too. Chapter 1 is simply titled "Cyber File", rather than "Cybermen: Cyber File", so I think your proposed rename to "Cybermen: Status Update" is entirely justified. Thalek Prime Overseer 15:40, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

Been a while since this discussion was updated, but I am 100% certain that this story's full name is Cybermen: Status Update and not simply Status Update, as the prefix "Cybermen" is not used elsewhere in the Monster File, so it's not a "series" name.Thalek Prime Overseer 19:51, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
Quite right. I've performed the rename. Scrooge MacDuck 21:33, 16 February 2022 (UTC)
