I'm not done writing the page yet, hence the inuse template. Please refrain from editing at this time.--WarGrowlmon18 17:01, January 15, 2018 (UTC)

The {{inuse}} template can be employed by any editor for a page-editing project that requires more than one edit. There are various reasons why this might be required, both real-world and technical. As long as the poster has edited the page recently (the time period is stated on the template), all other editors should respect the project and refrain from editing. It is very annoying when you type up a long new section for an hour only to find you cannot save it due to a conflict with an intermediate edit.
Obviously, the template should not be abused, should be removed when one is done. It should also not be used on high-demand new pages such as a newly-released episode. Amorkuz 17:27, January 15, 2018 (UTC)
Fair play then, I'll the page be for now. May I ask why this is a thing though? It's purpose appears a bit flawed to me. I get it is so the creator can fully make the page without intervening edit conflicts and so on yet, inevitably, things one editor adds will be reshaped/changed in someway regardless; the template does not permanently protect the page from other editors so things on the page will change anyway. Does this not make it redundant in the long run? Snivystorm 17:36, January 15, 2018 (UTC)

Another author immediately started writing over the page, that's why I put that message up. They don't seem aware that the template thing prohibits other people from editing as they posted a message on my talk page asking about that when I went onto their talk page and chided them for their actions here.--WarGrowlmon18 17:34, January 15, 2018 (UTC)

It's alright pal, it was just a misunderstanding. No need to (in your words) "chide" me for a human error. Snivystorm 17:36, January 15, 2018 (UTC)

Feel free to edit now.--WarGrowlmon18 20:46, January 15, 2018 (UTC)

By the way, for those historically minded, here are the origins of the template: Forum:Origin of inuse and fact templates. Turns out the template is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Many happy inuse-ful returns to it and happy collaborative and respectful editing to us! Amorkuz 23:06, January 15, 2018 (UTC)
