- Quite simply, there may be other businesses or entities which are a conglomerate. Among the relevant stories which I have heard, it is made quite clear that this is the Conglomerate. We add definite articles only when necessary for disambiguation, and when sufficient evidence is given in-text that "the" is part of the title, and, to be best of my knowledge, this is the case here.

- I know it's been ages since this was addressed, but I just wanted to say that I think SOTO may be right. This is also backed up by Big Finish's official summary for The Sands of Life, which says that Cuthbert is CEO of "The Conglomerate", with both a capital T and C.
