Talk:The Silver Turk (audio story)

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Plot[[edit source]]

I have filled in one quarter of the plot. This is my first attempt at plot rendition, so there must be mistakes. I also strongly suspect that this is way longer than necessary. I did try to only mention things relevant to one of the multiple plot threads, but it is an intricate story.

I would appreciate any corrections/improvements from more experienced users to guide me in preparing the plots for Parts 2-4 in the future. Amorkuz Johan Drossel

UPD. The plot is complete but I will continue tinkering with it because I think it's far from being perfect. Any collaboration is welcome. Amorkuz 11:26, December 31, 2015 (UTC)

Is Johan Drossel a puppet?[[edit source]]

I have made an error in understanding this detail of the plot: is Drossel we see in the story himself a puppet? Since my error was based on a quote from the story, I imagine I might not be the first or the last. I record my final ruling on the matter here (no further changes are required at the moment.

At the end of the story, when Drossel drops motionless to the floor, having killed Gramm, Mary says: "He was a puppet too. Drossel was a puppet." Based on these words I naturally concluded that he was a puppet, created a separate page for Puppet Johan Drossel (scheduled for demolition) and edited accordingly. Him being a puppet also explained how he took two bullets to the chest from Stahlbaum without being harmed and even without bleeding. And the Doctor seems to confirm this saying: "He created himself in his own image."

However, as the Doctor is destroying all the puppets, he discovers that Drossel was a human augmented with Cyber technology rather than a puppet created using it. The Doctor describes it this way: "I stripped his body of the Cyber inlays that kept him alive. Not a pleasant task. The police can puzzle over the rest." My final conclusion is that there was only one individual looking like Johan Drossel, originally human, later partially Cyber converted. As seen from the example of the Brigadier, even a complete Cyber conversion does not warrant a separate page.

I do not know if human is the best species description for Drossel who is Cyber augmented for the whole of the story though. Amorkuz 11:26, December 31, 2015 (UTC)

How many puppets of the Doctor are there?[[edit source]]

I am proposing a theory that there are two different puppets of the Doctor in this story. The first one was one of Drossel's puppets. Mary finds it, while wandering in the Wittenmeiers' house. The second one is the Silver Doctor we see touring across Europe with Alfred Stahlbaum and his new wife, Mitzi.

Here are my reasons for thinking these are two different puppets.

  1. The Doctor is sure that he has destroyed all of the Drossel's puppets.
  2. When the Doctor directs the puppet of Mary to his puppet instead of him, the sounds effects suggest that the two puppets are destroying each other, or at least the the puppet of Mary destroys the puppet of the Doctor, which she calls "Wrong Doctor". Thus, it appears that the Doctor's puppet was damaged if not destroyed even before the Doctor dealt with the remaining puppets.
  3. The last we see of Alfred and Mitzi before their post-credits scene with the Silver Turk is when they run away from the Wittemeier's residence. At that moment, the Doctor's puppet is not with them. So how did it end up in their possession?
  4. Stahlbaum was able sustain the Silver Turk. Perhaps, there was enough Cyber-Technology implanted in his brain to create a new puppet on his own.

I am not 100% sure in this. But this is the best explanation I can fit to the story. Any thoughts? The answer affects how many pages for the Doctor's puppet are to be created, of course. Amorkuz 13:08, January 1, 2016 (UTC)

While the story does not say explicitly that the Silver Doctor is not the puppet met by the Doctor earlier, I came up with a definitive proof (I hope) of this. It goes like this.
  1. The Doctor finds it imperative to destroy all the puppets made using Cyber-Technology. He says: Drossel's still carting a lot of Cyber-Technology around nineteenth century Europe. He's an anachronism heading towards a temporal paradox.
  2. The Doctor has met his own puppet made by Drossel. He commented on its appearance: Oh, no. What a lousy likeness. That hair's a complete joke.
  3. Later the Doctor tells Mary that he has destroyed all the puppets: This is the last puppet. [...] All that false Cyber-Technology consigned to the flames, every last one.
  4. Since the Doctor finds it important to destroy all the puppets and knows about the existence of his own puppet, he couldn't have missed it. Thus, the first Doctor's puppet was destroyed by the Doctor. The Silver Turk is Stahlbaum's creation.
On a separate note, we do not actually know that the Silver Doctor was an exact likeness of the Eighth Doctor. All we know is that he had the same voice as he is clearly voiced by Paul McGann. I think claiming that the face was also copied would be a speculation. Amorkuz 20:09, January 1, 2016 (UTC)
