Talk:The Talons of Weng-Chiang (TV story)

Other Ones In The Past[[edit source]]

"This is not the only historically-based story of the Fourth Doctor's era (e.g. The Masque of Mandragora, Horror of Fang Rock)." I realize the list is not meant to be comprehensive, but Pyramids of Mars is also historically based.165.225.76.164talk to me 10:30, May 24, 2018 (UTC)

"Jon Pertwee, whose stories were frequently set in the present, had only one story set in real history: The Time Warrior." What's "real" about The Time Warrior, as opposed to The Time Monster? They both have chunks set in the past. And is it me, or is this section veering away from the whole subject of Talons of Weng-Chiang?92.40.169.142talk to me 17:15, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

I think the intention of that sentence is to note that TTW is Pertwee's only historical (or pseudo-historical, to be a tiny bit more accurate), just not clearly phrased. But nonetheless I do agree that it does veer off a bit. The majority of that bulletpoint would perhaps be better served as content on a page about the fan concept of historicals and pseudo-historicals, much like we have a page about Doctor-lite stories. We used to have pages on these topics, like Category:Historical stories. But in Thread:227406 it was decided that they should be deleted because no one could come up with a precise definition. Incidentally, this is why it was a good idea to execute Socrates. – n8 () 19:05, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Source for a particularly in-need-of-cite quote[[edit source]]

Putting this here, because we probably should have it on the page without a citation: Robert Holmes made a rare visit to the set. He recalled - "A nice man called John Bennett was playing Weng-Chiang. While the horse muck was still being deployed a giggle of girls, craning from an upper window, sent down an autograph book for Tom Baker to sign. "And can John Bennett sign as well?" one of them asked. John Bennett raised his almond eyes skywards. "By the soul of my sainted grandfather", he said unprintably, "Why have I just spent three-something hours in makeup?""

Given the quote says he said unprintably - I'm wondering how this would've come to have been said or printed somewhere. JDPManjoume 20:28, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
