Talk:Venusian

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Dubious scholarship[[edit source]]

Man, I'm really uncomfortable with how this article is knitting together the various mentions of the word "Venusian". Take a look at just the biology section. It's throwing together every mention of Venusian it can find into one paragraph. And I'm tellin' ya right now, the Time Monster part 1 (which is where the "big feet" thing comes from) doesn't say word one about which Venusians the Doctor is referencing. The article states it's talking about the "original" Venusians, but we flatly don't know the original Venuians have big feet from The Time Monster.

I fear that we've just drug together every passing reference to Venusians and tried to cobble together a single species out of them. Given the fact that a major strand of DWU fiction — basically all seven Dalek annuals — see Venusians as human — and never mentions any "originaL" Venusians — we need to be careful, here. We must identify whether these other sources — NA: Bad Therapy, Timewyrm: Exodus, PDA: The Murder Game, EDA: Endgame, WC: The War of Art — are really talking about the same species. I think I would be much more comfortable with language which backs away from talking about "native" or "original" Venusians — unless it actually appears in the text. I think the article's accuracy might be improved by an "according to this source"/"accordin to that source" structure, rather than just assuming that all these Venusians are the same.

DWU fiction involving Venus has actually appeared since 1964. It's unreasonable to assume all writers have been on the same page about Venusians.
