Talk:Vienna (series)

Admin notice: be careful, Vienna is still not a valid source[[edit source]]

In case anyone is wondering why we now have a page about this even though Vienna, ever since Thread:125464, has become well-established as one of the poster-children for series we could imaginably cover, but do not:

Any series that has fully-licensed crossovers with the DWU has sufficent "connections" with the franchise to merit a single overview page within the "Real world series with DWU connections" cat.

And that's before you go into the many "shared cast members". If we're going to have a page on Born and Bred purely based on production connections, even though there isn't a shred of narrative or legal connection between the two franchises, then it'd simply be T:NPOV-infringing "TV is more important" prejudice not to extend the same courtesy to an audio series as closely related to Doctor Who as Vienna.

But again, this is one of our BTS "series with connections to the DWU" pages. Nothing has changed: Vienna is still not a valid source on this Wiki. By the same token, however, this page shouldn't have the "Invalid" tag any more than Star Trek does. Its validity isn't even "on the table" in the current setup, as it were — we're covering it strictly as a footnote to the history of actual DWU productions, not as a source for in-universe articles of any kind. --Scrooge MacDuck 17:59, October 26, 2020 (UTC)

(As of 2023, this has now been changed. Vienna is covered in full as a valid source) Cookieboy 2005 20:52, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

Make use of the Vienna Wiki[[edit source]]

Regardless of the status of various parts of the Vienna audio series, as admin (and main contributor) of the Vienna Wiki, feel free to help yourselves to any parts of the Vienna Wiki instead of writing it yourself and using your valuable time. I'm currently on a slow but steady journey to fill the Plot sections of every Vienna story in her series but I'm not even halfway through yet. I've made some solid progress though. If there's anything else you require from the Vienna Wiki, let me know.

If, at some point in the future, this Wiki felt it appropriate to make the Vienna series valid to the DWU, I would still update all of the Vienna pages, rest assured, as I intend to do with the Jenny and Graceless series respectively, when I get the time. Again, let me know if you need anything. Also, any fellow Vienna listeners are more than welcome to help out over at the Vienna Wiki. TheFartyDoctor Talk 15:33, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Scratch that. While we appreciate the offer, we want original material on the wiki. If we just copy from somewhere else, why would someone want to come here (alternatively, why would someone from here want to come to your wiki if the material is the same?). Shambala108 01:20, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
...um, that's awfully brusque of you @Shambala108. The Vienna Wiki, from my understanding, is the reaction to the shunning of the series from this Wiki, despite numerous attempts via inclusion debates to have it covered, like it rightfully deserves. As the Wiki is a reaction, a supplementary Wiki if you will, most of the superb contributions by fellow editor @Thefartydoctor and the other editors at the Vienna Wiki would've added it here if the series was covered. That Wiki would likely not even exist if the inclusion debates had gone successfully.
And by the way, it is well within the policies of the Fandom website itself to transfer information from Wiki to Wiki so long the contributions are attributed by the correct copyright, so I'm sure that every other editor here will gladly welcome material from the Vienna Wiki when the time comes. 01:28, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
I know it's fandom policy, but we've always preferred original material here. And keep the personal attacks out of your posts. Shambala108 01:39, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
But I have just gone out of my way to explain that the Vienna Wiki contains that "original content" that has only been placed there due to the series not being covered here. It is not fair to ask for all of that hard work to be replicated, which I'm sure you are aware of.
Also, how did I make a personal attack, when you're the one who quite clearly was dismissive and rude towards @Thefartydoctor who is only trying to be a helpful editor? I feel as if you are the one who made the personal attack here. 01:45, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
You described Shambala's words as "awfully brusque". It's not the end of the world, but it's still a good deal ruder than pointing out common policy, I'd say.
As for the matter itself, it seems to me that the Vienna Wiki is likely to be merged into Tardis if and when we reintegrate the Vienna series, which would kind of make this a nonissue; and until then there is no immediate need for any such copypasting because we're not supposed to yet have pages about the stuff the Vienna Wiki is already covering. I understand where you're all coming from, and I don't take offense at anything said here. It may be of interest to know that I took a few hours out of my day yesterday to complete the Plot for Vengeance from the Master! boxset. If you wish to use it as inspiration, go ahead. The offer for help is always open and I understand what has been said here regarding fresh pieces of work. Regarding Vienna, my attention always goes to the Vienna Wiki first so that we can make a complete archive/encyclopaedia in case this Wiki ever decides that Vienna is valid and wishes to merge. Hope that makes sense. <3 TheFartyDoctor Talk 17:48, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

In the meantime I think that this page should very much be set out like The Confessions of Dorian Gray. There should be a table of released stories (unlinked if they are not currently permitted on this Wikia) and the unnecessary list of actors who have appeared in both series should be removed.
