You can do pretty much whatever you want with your user page — that is [[user:whatever your name is]] — or any of its subpages. But there are definitely some things you cannot have there.[1]
- Anything which violates Wikia's Terms of Use
- Expressions of social or racial hatred.
- Personal attacks of any kind made against fellow users
- Pictures in violation of our user image policy
- Videos, other than the ones that already exist in our video library. (Users are not allowed to upload videos.)
- Advertisements
- Things that go beyond sharing biographical facts about you, but which have nothing to do with the DWU or the improvement of this wiki. In other words, we're not a free host or webpage provider. This isn't the place to collaboratively work on homework with friends, or to make an album about your recent trip to Santiago. You can, however, create a wiki of your own at Wikia to use however you wish!
- Fan fiction or roleplaying. We strongly encourage you to visit our friends at Doctor Who Fanon or Doctor Who Expanded if you want to create new fiction. Tardis is an encyclopaedia of licensed fiction.
Things to think about
There are also some things that won't get you banned if you put them on your user page, but which may be inadvisable.
- Truly personal information, like national identification numbers, birthdays, real life names.
- Artwork to which you own the copyright; the CC-BY-SA 3.0 license under which this wiki operates will naturally cut into your potential profits from that work
- Galleries encourage the use of many images, but this can slow page load times considerably.
- The wrong categories. User pages and subpages can only be in category:users, or one of its subcategories.
Penalties for violation
If you edit your user page in stark violation of the above guidelines, administrators will be justified in blocking you from further editing. Due to the variety and individual characteristics of specific offences, it is entirely up to the discretion of the blocking administrator how long your ban will last.
Nevertheless, we will take into account the context of your violations, and will often consult other admins before imposing the final ban. If you attack others, introduce hate speech, or recklessly upload videos (particularly copyrighted ones), your punishment is likely to be an instant ban of indefinite length; punishments for more subtle or innocent transgressions will vary based on severity and whether the user displays convincing awareness of what they did wrong and commitment not to repeat the error. As ever, Help:I'm blocked applies.
