As the Thirteenth Doctor explained to Team TARDIS, the Thassor were one of "the ancient races". She described them as "amazing" storytellers, inventors and explorers. As a way to spread information, they built the Orbs of Thassor, sending them out among the stars as a way to share their legacy long after they were gone. (TV: Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror)
