The Book of the Still was a "life line" for time travellers who had gotten stuck or stranded. A user of the book needed only write their name and a description of where and when they were, then wait. In the future, finders would read their entry, travel back in time and rescue them. Finders were rescuers, while seekers were time travellers in need of rescue.

The Book of the Still was made from superstring taffeta. It was about a hundred pages long and bound in cracked grey leather with gold leaf words etched into the cover.

At some point The Book of the Still was removed from temporal circulation and placed within the Museum of Locks on the planet Lebenswelt. (PROSE: The Book of the Still) It would later be celebrated as part of an annual Banned Books Week. (PROSE: Time Traveller's Diary)
