The Effect

The Effect was a breach in spacetime that affected the universe at a quantum level, allowing anyone who found the source to alter the nature of reality. Waym discovered it upon the arrival of the Sontarans and Rutans to Gallifrey; though he was shortly thereafter murdered by Savar, he told Larna, who told the Magistrate to present it to the High Council. The Doctor discovered that the Effect would eventually destroy the universe, replacing it with a grey void; he investigated and found the source of the Effect in the Needle, just a few decades before the end of the universe. Savar recognised the Effect as an indication that Ohm was trying to escape his black hole prison. The Doctor tried to use the Effect to resurrect his wife Patience, but he had to let her go in order to stop Omega. (PROSE: The Infinity Doctors)
