The Sandbox Game (video game)
The Sandbox Game was a game in which brands would release small game worlds that all existed as locations within a single digital world, branded a "metaverse".
In May 2023, Reality+ was announced to be making a BBC Studios "immersive experience" in The Sandbox Game which would have featured Doctor Who content.[1] The game's parent company, The Sandbox, would detail in June 2023 that "BBC Studios’ metaverse space in will launch later this year and further details will be released in due course."[2]. The plans for Doctor Who content would again be referred to in an interview with the company's co-founder Tony Pearce in August 2023.[3]
However, as of late 2024, all such content announced has been entirely Top Gear themed.[4]
The Top Gear experience - The Stigverse - was announced in June 2024[5], and was listed by Reality+ as being "available for a limited time on The Sandbox during Q4 2024."[6], or alternatively "Autumn or Winter 2024"[7] as part of The Sandbox's "Alpha Season 4"[7], with no further mentions made thus far regarding Doctor Who.
