Transport vessel (Flight of the Cyberons)

During the Cyberon War, a five-miles-wide Earth Alliance transport vessel, designed to carry thousands of troops for deployment in surface combat, was lost in the Jathar Expanse.

It remained mostly intact, and as a result, the Cyberons used it as a trap for salvage crew; they installed an experimental Conversion Engine in the heart of the ship and made it send an irregular signal to any ships that passed through the Expanse. When the strangely pristine ship was noticed and a crew investigated, the Engine's nanite-based conversion field would activate, transforming them into Cyberons and therefore leaving no witnesses.

The crew of the Oblivion Spark were the last victims of this charade and survived it because a Cyberon vessel beat them to the ship and switched off the Conversion Engine before they got there, so as to prepare it for transportation. With the testing phase over, they intended to carry the Conversion Engine to populated star systems and use it on civilian populations. The Spark pursued the Cyberons, however, and prevented them from achieving this goal. (PROSE: Flight of the Cyberons)
