Not long after Maxine Masters's arrival on Earth and subsequent gaining of asylum, Giles asked her to repair a trio-disregulator, which she found a simple task. Giles told her that a team of scientists had spent five years trying to fix it and had got nowhere. After she repaired it, her abilities proved to Giles that she could be P.R.O.B.E.'s new technician.
