The University of Rome was located in the city of Rome.
In the late 20th century, Liz Shaw worked in the university's science department. While there, she was assigned to investigate a bust of Nero that had odd properties. She worked on the bust with a UNIT official named Dr Jonas Smythe, who was, unknown to her, the Fifth Doctor.
