Private Upton was a UNIT soldier under Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart stationed at the Wenley Moor nuclear research facility.
After giving reports to the Brigadier about the loss of contact with the soldiers in cave mouth two, he witnessed the kidnapping of the Third Doctor by two Silurians, one of whom killed Upton with his third eye. Upton's body was discovered by Captain Sam Hawkins. (TV: Doctor Who and the Silurians)

- Upton was played by an uncredited Simon Cain, who also played a Silurian in the same serial. Cain, despite having several lines, received no on-screen credit. (DWM 222)
