Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Estelle met Jack Harkness when she was 17, at the Astoria Ballroom in London a few weeks before Christmas, sometime between 1941 and 1943. He would later tell Gwen Cooper that it was love at first sight and that he and Estelle had pledged to stay together until their deaths. (This was immortal!Jack, so he knew that wasn't going to happen.) (inseparable - nylons - bluestocking - Majestic - Savoy)

In February 1944, Estelle said goodbye to Jack and left London to become a Land Girl. After a difficult period of adjustment, she grew to love the natural world, writing to Jack that "I've found something I never knew I'd lost ― I feel I can hear nature. And she's laughing." Shortly before her death, Jack would tell Gwen that Estelle "shouldn't be living in town. She belongs in the countryside." She and Jack continued to correspond for several months, while Jack was serving overseas, and she appeared to be aware that his missions involved intelligence. However, they lost contact after the war, and she believed that he had been killed in combat.

In August 2004, Estelle finally saw Jack again while passing on the street in Newport. He didn't acknowledge or appear to recognize her, and she was torn between believing that the man she saw was an unaged Jack himself or a more conventional son. Greatly affected by the surprise, she posted a letter to Jack despite not having an address for him. The unaddressed letter nonetheless made its way to Torchwood hands, and sometime afterward Jack re-established contact with her. By 2007, she and Jack were in regular if not frequent contact and had a friendly loving relationship.

In her later years, Estelle became a fairy investigator, giving public talks and publishing a pamphlet. She identified one of their gathering places in Roundstone Wood outside of Cardiff and was delighted to be able to photograph the fairies' more benign form. She believed them to be -------. However, after she agreed to cooperate with Torchwood's investigation of the fairies, they turned on her and caused her to drown in a freak rainstorm.

"I was so lucky to have seen them. So privileged to have witnessed such a magical moment. Because fairies are shy, you see. But I know in my heart that they're friendly, loving creatures."
