If I remember correctly, the old VE had a feature whereby you could choose a default (VE or "classic") but still be able to use the other one pretty easily. For now, the only way to use "classic" is to use the arrow. In order to have it as my default, I've had to turn off the VE, though I did test it a bit.
If there isn't a way to easily switch back and forth, I probably won't be using the VE much, which is a bit ironic considering I was one of the very few who argued to keep the old VE.
