Regardless, "storybook" never = "short story". It can mean a collection of short stories, but given that individual issues are called storybooks here, they absolutely should be taken as individual books, and therefore "novels" in terms of disambiguation. This is mainly to differentiate from the dab term (book), which would be for an in-universe item.
Yes, we define some terms broadly, but it can never be case-by-case. Generally, the main distinction between a book, and a novel specifically, is that a novel is a book of fiction, which is certainly what we are looking at here.
