From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference

Tardis:Reference books policy

On this wiki are in the process of developing how we cover non-fiction analytical reference books.

This policy is to guide what can be covered on this wiki, and not what must be covered. We will cover texts relevant, useful or interesting to the coverage of Doctor Who and are not attempting to cover all reference texts that cover Doctor Who.

Reference books[[edit] | [edit source]]

Fictional[[edit] | [edit source]]

These books often have non-narrative based elements such as The Gallifrey Chronicles by John Peel, Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia by Gary Russell and Doctor Who: The Visual Dictionary. For more information see our Canon policy.

Non-fiction[[edit] | [edit source]]

Reference books provide behind the scenes information such as Doctor Who: A Celebration by Peter Haining, Doctor Who: The Sixties by David J. Howe, The Making of Doctor Who by Terrance Dicks and Malcolm Hulke and Doctor Who: The Inside Story by Gary Russell.

Analytical reference books[[edit] | [edit source]]

Analytical reference books seek to understand or analyse the production, stories or universe of Doctor Who. They are not primarily about presenting new fictional content.

These books can take the form of detailed guides such as About Time or I, Who media analyses such as Doctor Who: The Unfolding Text or running commentary and analysis such as Running Through Corridors.

Coverage[[edit] | [edit source]]

Not all reference books are useful or relevant to Doctor Who or this wiki. Therefore limits must be placed on what we cover.

Reference books[[edit] | [edit source]]

Fictional[[edit] | [edit source]]

Any reference books that have a primarily fictional element must be licenced by the BBC or its subsidiaries, books such as I Am the Doctor: The Unauthorised Diaries of a Timelord by John Peel are not not covered on this wiki.

Analytical books[[edit] | [edit source]]

These must either be written by someone who has a connection with Doctor Who; such as an author or editor of a fictional or non-fiction Doctor Who work, actor or member of crew.

Or someone who is an education professional; as is the case with works such as Doctor Who: The Unfolding Text, Time and Relative Dissertations in Space and Triumph of a Time Lord.

Analytical books must only cover Doctor Who, its universe or individuals and elements relating to it (this includes Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Big Finish's output). Works such as Science Fiction Audiences: Watching "Star Trek" and "Doctor Who" or Cult Telefantasy Series...Explorations in Science Fiction and Fantasy are not covered by this wiki.

Use as sources[[edit] | [edit source]]

This policy does not apply when citing sources on real world or in behind the scenes sections of articles. This policy only relates to what is specifically covered on this wiki. See Tardis:Resources for an extended list of resources that may assist in researching articles.
