User talk:Americanwhofan
Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!
We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:
- the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
- our Manual of Style
- our image use policy
- our user page policy
If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! — you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:
Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask an admin.
Use the Correct Tenseedit source
I have read some articles that you have that and they are in present tense which is not the manual style of this wiki. Every article in this wiki is written in past tense --Catkind121 12:37, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, my mistakeedit source
Sorry about that, I will do so in future, do you know if there is a list where I can find all the terms used in refs like that? If there is then that would be very helpful, thank you, all the best — RC-1136 Hate Mail Here 18:04, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot, I will refer to that in future, all the best — RC-1136 Hate Mail Here 18:24, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
My Apologies. The Librarianedit source
Hi, I owe you a big apology because I believe I have unintentional caused offence by deleting a comment you placed on the discussion of a recent page Ive done, regarding spelling mistakes I made.
- I appreciate you (or anyone) flagging things up for me and have only recently started using my Watchlist to better effect. The mistake in question was a spelling mistake (maybe two!) which I corrected and then deleted. I am sorry and will undo the change as soon as I can.
- If its a genuine mispelling at source then I would indicate it with a (sic)remark, anything else please feel free to correct yourself, or let me know directly and I'll check it as soon as.
- Im really sorry about this. I tried to leave a message for you before but overlooked the fact that a talk page could be active even though 'Americanwhofan' didn't. The Librarian 02:50, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Credit editsedit source
Oops. That must have gotten lost in the shuffle of my edits. I'll put it back, as soon as I can pull up the episode and provide and example of what costs what from the Episode. Thanks for the catch, Monkey with a Gun 22:54, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks again!edit source
Cheers for that, Im working on so many different bits at the moment that I keep flipping between windows. I really should focus....but I cant! sorry I've tried! I like to be as completeist as possible but get easily distracted. Hope you are liking the new pages, some of them will probably need splitting up at some point but for now Im mainly concentrating on gathering content. Thanks for keeping an eye on me. Cheers! Categoryedit source
Sorry about that. Honest mistake - Sibyl is a cult leader and yes, she does need that category. -- Will101 15:47, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Weevil Fight Clubedit source
Sorry, but how is Weevil Fight Club considered vandalism. I'm a bit offended as I created the article and thought that, despite being quite short and definately a stub, was relevant and would be considered a 'real article'. I'm A Hydroponic Tomato! Bigredrabbit 06:01, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

RE:Replaced imageedit source
Because, I was uploading a new version of the file, and I had no way of renaming it. If you do want too rename a page first arouse the matter onto the talk page and place Template:Rename on it. !ṂěṭáṛdIṢ 2024Sunatam 2: 34Just William Wiki
- The above user is wrong. He can rename the file when he uploads a new version, however, since the file was completely different to what the file name was, he should have just upload it as a new image. I have reverted his image and gone back to yours. MM/Want to talk? 12:50, March 1, 2012 (UTC)
Annualsedit source
Yes, there are a number of bot mistakes with regards to annuals, because prev/next is done there without regard to the medium of the story. Don't worry. There's a secondary "cleanup" run that's coming for annuals. I deemed it easier to fix it later than to try to insulate annual stories from the initial run. But thanks for keeping your eyes peeled! If you see anything that concerns you, please do mention it, preferably by starting a new forum thread, as explained at Forum:New infoboxes and you. That way, the whole community can benefit from what you've noticed.

Not a bot erroredit source
You'll note that the comic infoboxes haven't been redirected to Infobox Story yet. Once they are, it'll be perfectly appropriate to have prev/next. Give it a few more hours, and I'll have the comic stories online.

File in wrong categoryedit source
Because I occasionally make mistakes. --Tangerineduel / talk 12:33, March 18, 2012 (UTC)
Prev/next on infoboxedit source
As indicated on both the forum page and the Infobox Story documentation, what you're describing isn't an error. The first story of any range must have prev=none
. Otherwise, it'll slide the "next" info into the left column, making it appear to be a "previous" story. Likewise, the final story of a range should have next=none
, but it's less noticeable when this isn't set. When you see these types of error, please feel free to set prev or next to "none" as needed.

Imageedit source
It contained the Doctor Who website and a copyright licence. All images must be clean of network logos, websites addresses, watermarks and copyright licences. The images I removed contained two other these, so it was removed. MM/Want to talk? 17:04, March 24, 2012 (UTC)
Re:TENTH DOCTOR AND BRIG DWM COMIC PICTUREedit source
oh, Don't worry, that's just a side affect of updating the image. It'l look normal in a few hours, this is very common when someone updates an image. If you to the page for the image, It'll show what it will look like. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 20:41, March 30, 2012 (UTC)
Hi, about the Doctor Who Unbound, i got the information on Surus and that Doctor from the Doctor Who reference guide. http://www.drwhoguide.com/unbound01.htm. So instead of just saying the statement is unclear, why don't you check first and then improve it as you wish. =) Sclera1 talk to me 03:04, March 31, 2012 (UTC)
Christmas cheeredit source
As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.
This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!
We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.
2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
For(u)m Letteredit source
Hey there, I hope your Halloween was decent. As you might know, we've not had forums for over two years at this point. A few of the regular editors have been having a discussion on this topic at Forum talk:Index and we'd like the input of other prominent editors if you have the inclination. Cheers.
