Suggestions[[edit source]]

To take your points, one by one:

  1. Not possible to have a badge past 500, due to a limitation in the way Wikia have the Achievements game set up. In most tracks, the highest level award is simply repeatable, and there is no option to change the graphic as the award gets repeated.
  2. It's a known issue that the Hebrew link is indeed active and pointed to a closed wiki. This was due to admin not really tending the interwiki farm prior to 2010. Apparently, the he leaders got in there and requested the link without anyone noticing, then stopped contributing. At the same time, there was yet another failed Hebrew wiki, which caused confusion. We're currently negotiating to get the prefix pointed to the most active one. (Having said that, there are a number of wikis on our interwiki map which have fallen into disuse, but these are not generally inter-language wikis.)
  3. I wasn't aware that the Romanian version needed "resurrecting". It's our latest addition, dating back only a few months. But sure, please do help them out if you can.
  4. You are obviously encouraged to do any amount of interwiki linking that you can. It is always welcome, and in some ways may be more helpful than actually improving our articles. Plenty of people write articles here; very few help out with interwiki links.

It's customary to answer on the user page of your correspondent. That way, you trip the little message that says, "You have a hypercube". Yes, this doesn't keep the conversation all in one place, but it does make the conversation move more quickly.
On the matter of the 500 graphic, I still think it's better as is. An infinity mark simply wouldn't be accurate. What the award denotes is that you've made 500 edits. That's true whether you've only made 500 (i.e., you're getting the badge for the first time), or whether you've just crossed the 5000 barrier. If you think of it as meaning, "I've just made 500 more edits" then I rather suspect you'll be happier with it.
As for w:c:ro.doctorwho, you helpfully pointed me in the direction of a problem. I've now posted a note on Teodor's message wall which basically asks him to appoint you or me a "backup bureaucrat", or else adoption procedures may begin. If you would, please hold off on going to Community Central for about a week to give him adequate time to respond. Obviously, I'd rather he be involved in the process than for an adoption process to go through. As you've noted, he's done the grunt work of building the skeleton, so he deserves to be a part of moving the wiki forward.
Finally, I would dispute the notion that it doesn't add content to improve interwiki linkage. I believe – and I'm sure our other bureaucrat Tangerineduel would join me in this — that any time we can offer an alternate language we should do so. So, please continue.

Well, just to be clear, I don't have the standing to formally adopt the wiki through Wikia's adoption procedures. I've recently founded a not-DW-related wiki and am therefore disqualified from adoption for a fair few number of weeks. You would, however. So if there's no response from Teodor by (US) Election Day, then I would strongly encourage you to go through the adoption process. If you, as the newly-appointed adopter, wanted to then appoint me as a "backup bureaucrat", that would be allowed. However, my actual contributions to the wiki would be limited purely to CSS/JS/tech stuff, as I don't speak a word of Romanian.

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
