We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:
- the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
- our Manual of Style
- our image use policy
- our user page policy
- a list of people whose job it is to help you

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]
As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.
This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!
We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.
2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
False accusations[[edit source]]
I've put this here to avoid cluttering up talk:Dalek. I just want to reply to the points you made there.
Firstly, I'm not going to temper myself for your convenience. I can use the word "crap" in the fashion I did. It wasn't used as an insult and it suited my purpose. I can't even remember the last time I heard of someone being offended by something so tame as "crap". It might not be used in a "civilised" discussion by your standards, but I decided I wanted to use it and you have no grounds to tell me not to, as childish as that may sound.
As for you demand of an apology, just no.
To suggest I was threatening you actually irritates me as it's just slander. Take the comment at face value - I don't want you to falsely accuse me. That's all there is to it. I posted my opinions on why the image shouldn't be changed. There's nothing in that original post that constitutes a personal attack. It might have been impassioned, but that's just because I really do not like that image you proposed. The Doctor, the Master and Dalek all used to have such collages and they were all scrapped for being an eyesore or misleading. I participated in those discussions, so to see an attempt at revival was unpleasant.
Now, with absolutely no subtext, please re-read posts before making accusations. If you really think I've attacked you personally, ask another admin to look over it, but they'll probably just tell you what I am - you've either misinterpreted or become disproportionately irate after I disagreed with your proposition. I don't mean to sound patronising, but I'd rather not continue this discussion with more back and forth about who offended who. I've seen many discussions like this before and they don't have a positive outcome. You may want to reply to this saying how wrong I am or whatever, but hopefully you'll realise I really was just disagreeing with you, not attacking you. - We take accusations of personal abuse very seriously here at Tardis, thanks to a very strong policy against them. I have read and re-read Skittles' comments at Talk:Dalek and can find no reasonable cause to believe he was attacking you. There was absolutely no kind of threat inherent in his remarks of 22:23 on 24 November.
- Disagreement is not an attack.
- It can further be inferred from our chat policy that curse words are not necessarily an indication of incivility. We specifically allow cursing for emphasis and/or dramatic effect here.
- Note that I don't personally think crap is a curse word, but even if it were, the context in which Skittles used it is, to my mind, still within the bounds of civility. He isn't calling you crap, nor even your suggestion crap. Rather, he's saying that the imperative to find an image which demonstrates the latest model of Dalek is a flawed basis on which to make an infobox decision. Why? Because it promotes edit wars — an unproductive kind of one-upmanship in which people try to find the latest and greatest image, rather than concentrating on what's really important: editing the articles.
- All that said, just because I have, in this instance, found no basis to consider your claim of cyber-bullying further, your rights to file future grievances are not in any way compromised. I, and the rest of the administrative team, will drop what we're doing and rush to your defence in future, if a confirmed case of bullying exists.
- I hope that you will continue making suggestions and contributing to this wiki. But I do urge you to read the whole of T:ATTACKS and T:CHAT RULES and even our Project:ParentPage to get a better sense of what we actually do consider to be areas of verbal concern within our community. They might not be what you expect.

Past tense in direct quotations[[edit source]]
I don't know either way off the top of my head if there is policy. But I'm not going to hugely resist changing long full verbatim sentences like the one on Dalek, especially if it comes off as difficult to read (fragments are a different matter). That was just my preference of rendering it, to be honest. My main point with editing that lead is making it clear that Daleks are, at least in most accounts, not robots but a species or a race with DNA inside a shell. -- Tybort (talk page) 00:53, December 18, 2014 (UTC)
