Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Spoilers![[edit source]]

Hey, please note the Hitler image you keep adding is from the trailer of a story yet to be broadcast. This offends Tardis:Spoiler policy, hence its removal. Thanks--Skittles the hog - talk 08:04, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that the reason why I removed your image too. :) BroadcastCorp 08:12, July 28, 2011 (UTC)

Please note that all but one of your uploaded images to date have violated site policies and have now been deleted. As has been touched on above, we do not allow images from any episodes that have not been wholly broadcast by the BBC. This means that we disallow imagery from trailers, "next time" or otherwise. Also, we prefer that images bear no watermark, and all your images were clearly adorned with the BBCA logo. Finally, your pictures all offended Image use policy as well as tardis:spoiler policy, because they were in an improper format. Screenshots, unless being used for some specialised purpose that requires transparency, must be in the .jpg format. All your pictures were in .png format.
Please understand that we do want you editing here. You've just rather unluckily fallen afoul of a number of our site policies with your first contributions. If you have any questions, please get in touch with me or any of the admin team.

Spoilers and promo images[[edit source]]

We cannot use spoiler images from episodes that have not broadcast yet. The wikia also does not use promotion articles on in-universe pages. --Revan\Talk 13:55, August 27, 2011 (UTC)

Chat issues[[edit source]]

Are you experiencing technical issues with the chat feature, or are you repeatedly leaving and joining on purpose? If the former is the case, please inform someone of the problem. If you are merely screwing around, please note you are making it difficult for anyone to have a conversation as the page is littered notifications about your actions.--Skittles the hog - talk 15:38, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

Do you have any proof of this, say, a screen shot. I find it hard to believe seeing as several people commented on your actions. In addition, the times at which you left are suspicious. You made a comment, out-of-the-blue saying "i have not left once today", then proceed to leave and join again. The same thing happened moments later when I asked you to stop. I mean, come on. The evidence isn't in your favour here.--Skittles the hog - talk 15:51, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

I decided to restore your chat access seeing as what you say may be true. Please use it in the correct manner in future, if indeed you were screwing around. Thanks--Skittles the hog - talk 15:54, August 30, 2011 (UTC)

do u know how to make templates or talk page welcoms if u can i could help u and that CharmeRuler 20:31, September 16, 2011 (UTC)

Sky[[edit source]]

I'm not quite sure why you would have recreated the article that Skittles deleted at Sky, simply by changing the title to Sky (TV story). The point, as I explained to you in chat, was that the story hadn't aired yet. Please fully read our spoiler policy. When the time comes, which will be the date of first broadcast, the article may be created, but only at Sky (TV story). Until the, spoiler policy demands that your article again be deleted and creation protected.

Blocked[[edit source]]

I have decided to block you for one week as a result of your disregard for the policies of this wiki. The page you created at Sky (SJA) was obvious vandalism, with a nonsensical word making up its entirety. I would usually consider a ban harsh under these circumstances, but you have also defied both Tardis:Spoiler policy and Tardis:Image use policy on multiple occasions. I'm sure your intentions were good but, as you have proven unable to comply with this wiki's regulations, this ban will hopefully give you the time to read over the various policies that dictate the correct conduct applied at Tardis Wiki. Good day to you--Skittles the hog - talk 20:01, October 3, 2011 (UTC)

Skittles has agreed to let you off blocking early. Please see the relevant discussion at user talk:CzechOut#RE: Block, or something close to that sectional title. Please don't be afraid to get right back in there and edit away. I can't imagine there'd be any more problems, given our fruitful discussion at w:c:lego today. However, if you do receive a message from an admin suggesting that you have violated policy, please read it carefully and ask questions if you don't understand what's being said.
Finally, just so there is no ambiguity, please understand that I fully back Skittles' initial block of you. It was completely reasonable under the circumstances. This extraordinary compromise to let you out early is further testament to Skittles' desire — shared by everyone here — to help you understand our unique policies, not be punished by them.

Images with logos[[edit source]]

You are not allow to have images that have visible network logos in them, i.e. BBC, BBC HD, CBBC, Ten etc. Have a visible network logo is a violation of the poilcy and a reason for an image to be deleted - so they should not be there. Thank you and I hope you enjoy The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. MM/Want to talk? 20:34, December 25, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Clone gunner commander jedi! (I'm only saying this to get a badge.) -Lego Whovian talk to me 09:37, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

Pictures[[edit source]]

Thanks for trying to add images to The Sensorites (TV story). However, please note that .png screenshots are not allowed, per T:GTI and T:ICC. Yes, you will undoubtedly find some lurking around, but this is only because we haven't gotten around to deleting them.

.png is a much higher quality than .jpg, and thus threatens the "fair use" claim that allows us to use pictures at all. Moreover, .pngs are typically bigger than .jpgs, which means that users who don't have great internet connections — like mobile users — will have to wait noticeably longer for the page to be served to their device.

What we want are images that are .jpg and less than 100kb. Because your recent pic at The Sensorites is neither of these. it's been deleted. Please don't let this stop you from contributing in the future. If you need help understanding how to achieve these goals, please let me know.  :)

Holy crap this wiki's talkpages are.. odd.

-CM4S

It's always great that people either add infobox images, or else improve on low-quality images. But also keep in mind that per T:GTI, comic images should either have the entire speech bubble or else should be cropped so that you can't see it.

Also, I have no idea whether TV Comic had special coloured issues (all GTI specifies is that the majority of the 80s and 90s DWM comics were black and white), but if the content originates from colourisations of stories initially published in black and white (ie in colour reprints as stated here), they can only really be used as behind the scenes references to how a story is colourised.

I'm not an admin, so if you're confused, maybe one of them can phrase it better.

(Also, yes I'm sure the stuff about images is a lot to take in. Don't worry.) -- Tybort (talk page) 14:57, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

It doesn't necessarily matter where it's from, just warning that if the source you're taking them from WAS colourised and not in its initial (presumably black and white) format in TV Comic, it can't be used outside of behind-the-scenes instances. I'm just giving the benefit of the doubt, rather than directly saying "no, this is from that era and it's absolutely black and white", because I don't consider myself an expert on comics from, well, any era, really. -- Tybort (talk page) 15:29, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

Images[[edit source]]

Hey, several your recent image uploads (5 images uploaded on the 17 July/13 August), both in screenshot and in comic form have been .png, please familiarise yourself with our T:ICC. In short though, don't use .png. The file sizes are HUGE, these files will be deleted for failing to comply with our Tardis:Image use policy. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:59, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

Also, please don't upload images that are practically the same as images that already exist on the articles. Duplicate images will also be deleted. --Tangerineduel / talk 16:02, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

Block[[edit source]]

Follow da rules

Since 2011, I've tried to be super patient and help you become a better editor here. But your recent upload of Big Finish CD covers that we already had is just creating admin busywork. You are not improving things when you upload a bigger image of existing pictures. This is why there are warnings upon warnings on this wiki that we have a 100kb — that's kilobyte — file size cap. You'll be welcome back on 1 Jan 2013 — but please, please, please read and understand T:GTI and T:ICC first.

Final warning[[edit source]]

I'm not sure what to do, here. Your talk page is littered with appeals for you to read, understand and obey T:IUP, T:GTI and T:ICC. I've put up big, clear signs at Special:Upload which allow you to see very clearly what our major image use rules are. And you've had a lengthy block for failure to comply with these guidelines.

Yet you keep breaking the rules. This latest round of Zagreus pics were mostly too tall, and every single one of them was greater than 100kb in size.

I need for you to acknowledge on my talk page within the next 48 hours that you have read and understood all the above policy pages. If you fail to do so, I will be forced to block you permanently from this wiki. If you fail to obey the basic rules of image use on this wiki, I will also be forced to block you permanently from this wiki.

I don't wish to do so. It would be so much better if you would just help us by submitting stuff that falls within our (very easy to follow) guidelines. We need your contributions. But we can't afford the time devoted to cleaning up after you.
czechout<staff />    18:04: Wed 13 Feb 2013

How are the rules confusing? I ask because I'm trying to make them as clear as possible and am genuinely interested if they're not understandable. If you ask questions, you'll find that I might be able to answer them and help you understand. What is it at Special:Upload that you don't get?
czechout<staff />    18:15: Wed 13 Feb 2013

Parting of the ways

Since you have admitted to intentionally breaking rules that were actually known to you, you are judged to have violated T:BOUND. You are hereby blocked for one year, a length justified by the many policy violations recorded on this page.

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
