We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

UMD license[[edit source]]

You'd be wrong to assume that you coudldn't create the license. The only thing you can't do is to actually put it into the drop down menu that is available at Special:Upload.

However, no new license is really necessary. I've just slightly modified the wording of {{BBC DVD cover}} so that it includes all the major optical disc formats.

I'm slightly concerned by the plurality you've attached to VCDs. To my knowledge there's only ever been a single VCD release, and that was The Infinite Quest. If you've got plans to upload more than that to this wiki, I'd appreciate you posting your proposal to The Panopticon first, so that we can determine whether it's a genuine BBC product or not.

Pipe-switching[[edit source]]

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that it's not necessary to pipe-switch the majority of story titles. Most of them are redirects to the stories. Ok whether or not you continue to pipe-switch story titles on articles, you absolutely cannot do so on another user's page, as you did at User:Jack's the man/classic series and User talk:Jack's the man/classic series. Font rotation[[edit source]]

Font rotation is pretty easy, but unfortunately there is no single command to make it happen. You've to to remember to use "vendor specifications" if you want it to show up in most browsers. And you have to do it with a block element — that is, an entire block, usually thought of as a paragraph, of text. So if you want to end up with something like this...

This text goes from bottom to top

…you'll need to do something like this:

Of course, I've had to edit your page several times to get it just right, because this wiki's base HTML isn't really expecting top-down text. So you've got to do funky things like setting up a margin-bottom of 350px just so it won't collide with the other elements on the page. But that's basically how ya do it. :)

Blocked[[edit source]]

I notice that you are continuing to pipe switch titles despite our talk yesterday. As both SmallerOnTheOutside advised yesterday and Shambala108 did on 6 June, it is absolutely unnecessary to pipe switch Frayed to Frayed (novel), or to go throughout the page at Telos Doctor Who novella and pipe switch every title.

In order to continue to enjoy editing privileges on this wiki, you must stop this kind of editing immediately.

Because I told you yesterday that it is in fact community-derived policy to allow redirects like Frayed, The Curse of Peladon, The Massacre of St Bartholomew's Eve and any other title which does not describe another title or in-universe thing, I've got to block you for violating appearing to be editing contrary to the community to make a point. In this first instance, your block will be merely a day.

Again, if you want to make it your personal work ethic to always pipe switch from the full page name, that's perfectly fine. And if you rewrite sections of a page and you incidentally switch from a redirect to a pipe switched link, that's fine, too. But editing where your sole purpose is to change from a redirect to a pipe switch is generally a frivolous edit that is not allowed — unless, as with the case of your The Five Doctors discovery yesterday, the links are taking readers to the wrong page.

I know that you want to edit along these lines and you feel that you're being useful. But you are bound by policy as it currently stands. Please find some other way to contribute to this wiki, along the lines that I discussed with you yesterday.

Something Borrowed (short story) is the most recently-released story, having been published only a few days ago. I was unaware of its existence. Your change of link was of course proper and useful. I therefore apologise for the above post.
I would appreciate it, however, if you calmed down on the rhetoric. I'm an unpaid guy trying to enforce rules in as fair a way as I can. There's no need to inform me or any admin of the rules — just the changed facts. That I made a mistake here requires me to to immediately apologise to you, as I have instantly done. But you could have reasonably assumed that maybe I didn't know about such a recent, non-physical release, and simply noted that there was another story which had been published within the week.
Moroever, for future reference, please do not use {{delete}} on a redirect page in these circumstances. Instead, use {{speedy rename}}, because this will put it on a page that's more frequently patrolled, and one that will instantly show us the number of links needing to be changed. Another way of looking at it is that the page doesn't need to be deleted nearly so much as the links to the page need to be changed.
Finally, please remember that when you leave a message on someone's talk page unrelated to the post immediately above it, you must add a new section header so that the dividing line between the two discussions is clear.

Page creation[[edit source]]

It's great that you've recently added a lot of articles, but please remember that all articles must have certain basic things. If it's about a person, the page must contain {{NameSort}}, so that the page sorts by last name. All pages must also be put into a category. Please don't ever leave page without adding a category. If there is no appropriate category, do your best at creating a category that seems logical. If you continue to create without these two basic elements, your work might be summarily deleted.

Finally, I notice that a lot of the articles you've created have been about stage plays. Since these are impermanent productions, you must give a source for your claims. It's not like an audio or a television show where we have established credits. You've got to be able to pore what you say about a play that happened on a few nights, a few decades ago. Thanks :)

In general, your approach would be correct. If you go to a TV story page and see a red-link on an actor's name, you don't have to worry about sourcing the credit, because the end titles, which we all can find, serve as your source. Stage plays, however, are an exception. Stage plays don't offer credits that we can all see. They're ephemeral productions. So we need some kind of extra proof. Often this proof is in old issues of DWM. Sometimes it's in books by David J. Howe and company. Sometimes it can be on theatrical posters.
As for pipe tricking people's names, I'm not sure what you mean. Could you give an example of the kind of thing you're talking about?

Redirects[[edit source]]

I've noticed you've returned to dedicating whole edits to switching redirects to pipeswitched full names, so I'll reiterate what Czech said above and on chat. It is not only allowed but encouraged by site policy to maintain redirects sans dab terms. This is not wrong, but in fact just a normal part of the MediaWiki software that we — just like every other wiki other there — are taking advantage of. It's simply easier to type ''[[The Curse of Davros]]'' than it is to type ''[[The Curse of Davros (audio story)|The Curse of Davros]]''. You will find much of this all over the wiki, and the community has decided to leave such things intact.

You have been told multiple times not to devote whole edits to "fixing" this. You are bound by the current policy, remember, whether or not you disagree. And policy states that these links should not be changed. Please do not continue, or further discipline from admin may follow.

Headings[[edit source]]

And please don't get too precious over what is precisely said on title cards. As our Rotten Tomatoes™ partnership goes further, they will start to cover the old series as well as the new. We will soon be converting all section heads to a standard nomenclature. Story pages will say "Part one", even if the title card actually said "Episode one". This is because it is easier for their software to expect a single nomenclature, and "part" is by far the most-used way to title a serial episode, both in Doctor Who history and in the other shows covered under the Wikia agreement. We may also be switching to a numerical 1 rather than a long form one.
For the moment though, the proper form is "Part one", "Part two", "Part three", etc.

Inter-language links[[edit source]]

Per T:ILL, inter-language links are to be at the very bottom of the page, "even below the categories". Please do not move these above categories, as you recently did at Music of the Spheres (TV story). If you know of other instances where you've done this, please go back now and fix your errors. This matter has been determined to be more than a "glitch" and is instead a real, reproducible bug. It's been forwarded on to Wikia Staff. I'm telling you this so that you have a record on your user page, in case other admin ask you what you're up to. It does look like it's something you're intentionally doing, even though that isn't the case.

Pipe switching to "The Doctor"[[edit source]]

On novels, comics and other non-performed stories, please stop pipe switching in cases like:

This is only allowed on story page cast lists where the story is performed. In general T:DOCTORS is the controlling rule on this wiki, but T:CAST overrules T:DOCTORS on pages where we have a formal credit roll that we're trying to replicate.

Frivolous edits[[edit source]]

As has been discussed many times, you need to make edits that actually improve the quality of articles in some way. Editing away from a redirect is not an improvement. You're only doing that because you have it in your head that it "looks ugly" to get a "redirected from" message at the top of articles.

But — and I don't often say this to editors — you're just wrong.

The beauty of the MediaWiki software is that it's able to handle redirects, and thereby allow more than one path to get to a page. I and others have asked you many times to stop editing practices like these, but we don't seem to be getting through. I guess I'll have to move up to language which is more blunt. Edits like the following are of absolutely no value. They're worthless. They're a waste of time.

Redirects are good. We want them. We want to use them. They are a positive feature of the MediaWiki software that runs this joint. They are not bugs. Please stop trying to eradicate their existence.

Because we've all tried to get the point across to you, and failed, let me now make it extraordinarily clear to you: As long as a link goes to the right page, leave it alone, please.

Equally, please stop with this kind of edit:

Here, you tried to give a current age of William Russell, but in a way that obligates us to manually correct the article. You're simply creating a situation whereby the article will be wrong in the future. Our goal is generally to future-proof articles — not to introduce "time-released errors". A year from now someone will have to remember to go change that age, and no one will remember to do it. We don't need to offer the age of actors on our site. It's just not important info. Even if we had automatic counters, we'd have to remember to change them out once that person died. And we just don't have enough editors to make that worthwhile. Remember, we are liable to publish correct information about living persons. It's simply much easier for all parties concerned to stay away from open declarations of age altogether.

Despite these unhelpful edits, you have been making some good ones, and I wanted to mention those. The following kind of minor edit is good, and we thank you for making such edits:

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!

Character lists[[edit source]]

Please stop filling in character lists with information wholly derived from infobxes, as you've done at Run the Gauntlet and others. We want to try to get full character lists, not merely rabbit the infobox. Filling in the section obscures the fact that we need people to actually read the short story and give us a complete list. At the end of the day, you haven't actually added any information, so the edit is effectively meaningless.

Allegations at DW Fanon[[edit source]]

I don't wish to derail the conversation over at Fanon any further than it already has been, so let me say here, instead, that I'm sorry that you feel that you were "consistently ignored" at Forum:Should we still be trying to cover merchandise? I strongly maintain, however, that your comments were in no way discounted. We admin are not mind readers. We can only go off the comments of the community as they are presented, not as individual community members might wish that they had presented them.

As I think would be borne out today by independent review, you argued that Tardis should keep one type of merchandise but "maybe" get rid of another kind. In other words, you did not say "yes". What you actually said was a relatively non-comitttal "maybe" about a narrow portion of merchandise overall. You didn't even mention licensed food, games, clothing, action figures, or anything else that could be considered "merchandise".

In short, I did the best with what you gave me, so please stop acting like your opinions weren't a part of the decision-making process. Also, please allow for the fact that the conversation was almost two years ago and that it's just possible that you are projecting your current opinions upon the ones that you had back then, when you were not a DWC admin.

Hey, Lego. I know you don't like that our wiki is covering home media releases at all, but if we could just move past the anger, our two wikis could work together. You wanted an alliance? Why can't we help each other out whenever we can?

So onto the reason I came here, I noticed that you uploaded File:Series 1 Volume 1 UMD.jpg. I couldn't find images for it or any of the other volumes — and the sets for series 2 and 4 — anywhere on the Internet, so I'm guessing you own it, and hopefully others. Could you maybe provide other pics? I'd be very grateful. :)
