Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Images[[edit source]]

Can you please stop putting loads of images to to Character and Television stories, it makes the pages look really bad. Can you go through the page you have put handfuls of images on, and simple it down to five of six. (On Luke Smith page, i like the image of the one with him and the Doctor) thanks, Mini-mitch 12:51, April 24, 2010 (UTC)

Uploading new version of files[[edit source]]

Hi the 'Upload a new version of this file' link is used to upload a new version of the same file file. If you wish to upload a different file (ie one that isn't the same image) simply use the 'upload image' link. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 17:34, April 30, 2010 (UTC)

You have been asked before to make sure you don't upload over an existing file. You did so again today over File:Tenthdoc.jpg . If you are having trouble, please ask for help. Thank-you. The Thirteenth Doctor 15:58, June 3, 2010 (UTC)

SJA cast[[edit source]]

Maria is not a regular cast member of Series 2 (The Sarah Jane Adventures), she is secondary. If you keep changing it, it will be viewed as vandaslism. Mini-mitch 14:17, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, um, vandalising his user page is not a good way of taking out your anger at him. be more careful in future, you do not want to get blocked. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 13:35, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

Uploading images[[edit source]]

Hi, when uploading images please select the appropriate licensing tag from the drop down menu under the summary box, this adds the appropriate copyright tag and adds it to a category. If this isn't done on upload editors must perform these actions manually, which is sometimes difficult as we must guess the source of the image to tag it appropriately. ecial:UnusedFiles]] page where several images may already exist that have already been tagged that may be

Additionally it is often worth looking through the Special:UnusedFiles for files that have been previously uploaded and tagged (though unused at the moment) . Thanks. --Tangerineduel 15:42, August 19, 2010 (UTC)

You need to select licensing when uploading images. The Thirteenth Doctor 17:56, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Do not remove the cleanup tag from pages which still need cleanups. This can be seen as vandalism. The Thirteenth Doctor 13:17, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Locaition filming pictures[[edit source]]

Hiya :) Thanks for the picture that used to be at . I wanted to take a moment to explain why I had to delete it, and why I removed it from series 4 (Torchwood). Location shots simply expose us to too many complaints. In the first place, we don't know who took the picture, so it's impossible to give an accurate depiction of the rights situation. And the truth is, people who take location photos would almost certainly NOT agree that our use constitutes fair use. They want to at least reserve the right to make money off them, so the last thing that's in their interests is for some wiki to be puttin' them up. The position of the freelance location photographer is very different than that of the BBC. The BBC might tolerate us using images from their show, because this is a big advertisement for them. The lowly location photographer isn't in that position. They'll want to sell their images in a limited window before Torchwood 4 begins. Also, we simply can't know whether anything like that image will appear in the series, once the edits have all taken place. From the perspective of the Tardis Index File, it simply may not be accurate to put up location filming photos. It's also of an un-broadcast episode, so therefore it treads the line of our spoiler policy. For all these reasons, and also because it was a pretty badly cropped image, I therrefore deleted the image. I hope this will not deter you from submitting more things to the wiki. If you have any further questions, please feel free to hit me up.

Leave the cast list for Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures as they are. Previous cast are not main cast. Also, leave the posters for Series 4 of Torchwood on the page. Thankk you. Mini-mitch\talk 19:42, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
