Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask an admin.

RE:Semi-protected pages[[edit source]]

Yeah, my talk page is fine for asking questions. I'm new around this wiki too, though I've been on other ones, so I understand how most of the stuff works, but not all the polices and that. As far as I can tell, you should be able to edit the page as long as you are logged in. It may be that you have to make a certain number of edits before you're allowed to edit a semi-protected page, just like proving you're not a vandal. I'd ask User:Tangerineduel though, he's an admin and will know exactly how it works. Mc hammark 10:19, May 19, 2010 (UTC) =View source =

Hello. Looking at your edit count and contributions you should have enough edits to be autoconfirmed and therefore be able to edit on any pages (except the few that are fully protected). Have another try and if nothing's working I'll look into it. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 14:34, May 19, 2010 (UTC)
  • Thanks guys - yeah, there must be some kind of bug or I am not accessing the pages properly - I click on the 'edit this page' link at the bottom of a page (the link to edit a page on the top does not appear on semi-protected pages for me), I am then taken to the 'source' view with this message at the top of the page (examples include 11th Doc page, Vincent and the Doctor, The Dream Lord): DreamSong 23:13, May 19, 2010 (UTC)
"You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:

This page has been locked to prevent editing.

You can view and copy the source of this page"

Okay. Try logging out and logging back in, this may fix whatever issue.
If it doesn't try try doing a forced refresh of the page (or 'bypassing the cache' or several other things it's called), hold down Ctrl (or Command on Mac) and click refresh in IE, Reload in Firefox or whichever. On one of the pages that's giving you trouble. If this still doesn't fix things clear out your browser's cache.
If none of these things work get back to me. Hope some of these things help. --Tangerineduel 11:51, May 20, 2010 (UTC)
  • Well, tried all of the above, including switiching browsers and still a no-go - it appears that my problem is with all articles having a semi-protected banner (I checked a few others I had not visited before) - in all cases the option to 'edit this page' at the top next to the article title is absent - it does seem that I am not recognized as a logged-in user (I also tried logging out and in from one of the pages). I use a Mac but don't see how that could be the problem, seems too specific. Maybe it could be an authentication cookie problem? As far as cookies go, I only have browsers set not accept third party cookies - don't know why would be considered third party though, but I'll give resetting this a try - update: tried, was not the problem DreamSong 23:32, May 20, 2010 (UTC)
  • Not sure if you did something but thanks tangerineduel!!! I can now mysteriously edit semi-protected pages! cheers DreamSong 10:29, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
