Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

The Invasion animation[[edit source]]

Heya :) I note that you changed 2 entertain because you felt that BBCi actually sprang for the two animated Invasion eps. I'm having difficulties finding proof of this. Did they, in fact, debut as a red button feature on a BBC rebroadcast of The Invasion? If so, do you have proof of that event?

To be fair, I don't have any proof that 2 entertain paid for them, either. We have proof that 2 entertain copyrighted the relevant making-of featurette on the DVD ("Flash Frames"), but the episodes themselves are credited as "Cosgrove Hall for BBC TV", which doesn't help a whole lot. Any additional sources you could provide would be helpful. CzechOut | 01:12, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism at DVD page[[edit source]]

Tangerineduel beat me to it: the page is now protected against edits by new or anonymous users. Thanks for the heads up, though! —Josiah Rowe 01:50, July 26, 2012 (UTC)

Monobook errors[[edit source]]

I see you're a long-time WIkia editor so you're not going to like this answer. But you should have gotten a message at some point — though you may have dismissed it without reading. So it's my unpleasant task to tell you that Monobook is offered here on an as-is basis only. It sometimes goes out, particularly after Wikia have made a major revision. Which they did last week. I'll eventually get around to fixing it, once I figure out whether this is a bug that Wikia are going to correct, or if it's something for which I have to find a workaround. In the meantime, I strongly suggest that you switch to the Wikia/Oasis skin, where there are no such display errors. In short, Monobook will get fixed, but I can't give you an ETA at this stage.

Ahhh, but the constriction of widths is its virtue, not its weakness. It forces us all to work to the same widths, which means it reduces squabbles about the placement of pictures, or the layout of tables. We all have 680px, exactly — whether we're reading or editing, whether we're looking at it on a 100-inch television or a 17-inch monitor. It's much better for collaboration.
And, if that's not good enough for you, then consider that it's simply what our host wants us to use. IP users cannot — full stop — use Monobook, and they're by far the biggest population of our community. Registered users have Oasis as the default. Wikia really don't consider Monobook at all in their decisions, which is why we locally have to offer it on an as-is basis. It's really only old fogies like you and me who care about the good ol' days with Monobook.
Don't worry, though: I put a lot of work into the Monobook skin. It'll return. Just be sure to pop up every now and again in the Oasis skin to check the way your edits appear to most people. There are some cases where it looks fine in Monobook but awful in Oasis. And we always have to consider the way pages look to the overwhelming majority of our readers. If you haven't already, you'll want to install this code, which will give you a nifty little button that allows you to switch to Oasis on demand without having to go through Special:Preferences.

List of DW DVD releases[[edit source]]

I've protected the page for 6 months. Hopefully the longer protection will protect the page and encourage those editors to create an account to edit on the page. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:43, November 1, 2012 (UTC)

DVD page[[edit source]]

Hi! I just wanted to thank you for all the work you've done on the List of BBC DVD releases page.

I do have a question/favor. A little while back, someone added a 2014 section and added The Underwater Menace to it. They didn't include a source, so I slapped a "fact" tag on it. It's been almost a month, and nothing has changed. Can you check your sources to see if there's any mention of a release for The Underwater Menace? If you can't find any, I'll just delete the info for now. Thanks! Shambala108 15:23, July 20, 2013 (UTC)

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!

Page history[[edit source]]

Are you using Safari 7.0.1 — that is, Safari with Mavericks? If so, I, too, have been having problems with this, and have sent in bug reports to Wikia. It is not caused by any local coding, so I suggest you click here and submit a report. I know they are actively looking at the problem, so all bug reports will be useful. If you're not using Safari, a bug report would be especially useful. As we await a solution, I'd encourage you to switch to Chrome or Firefox, or even Opera, as none of these browsers have been known to exhibit the problem so far.
czechout<staff />    02:29: Sun 16 Feb 2014

I have added your comments to my open bug report on this issue. Like you, it impacts me directly, since my preferred setup is also Safari 7.0.1/Mavericks. To let you know what I know at this point, the condition has improved since it was originally reported, in that it now affects fewer pages. There are some pages that will give you page histories. Wikia have taken steps to resolve related issues which appear to have helped this one. But it is not fully solved.
Please feel free to submit your own bug reports through Special:Contact/bug, or ask for an update on ones you have already submitted.

Series 8 titles[[edit source]]

Hi! I know you mostly work on the Blu-ray/DVD release pages, so you may not be completely familiar with Tardis:Spoiler policy. Basically, even titles of unreleased stories are considered spoilers, so they can't be posted on the wiki until the story airs. Thanks! Shambala108 14:17, August 16, 2014 (UTC)

Minor edits[[edit source]]

Per Tardis:Edit summary, minor edits are only those that don't add or remove content from a page, like fixing a spelling error. Adding content to a page, like you've done quite extensively at List of Doctor Who documentaries, should definitely not be marked as minor. Thanks. P&P talk contribs 03:23, November 16, 2014 (UTC)

VHS page[[edit source]]

Thanks for cleaning up the List of BBC VHS releases page. I've cleaned it up before, but later edits got past me. I've protected the page for now, so we shouldn't have this problem again. Shambala108 00:19, January 13, 2015 (UTC)
