User talk:Ian678
Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!
We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:
- the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
- our Manual of Style
- our image use policy
- our user page policy
If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! — you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:
Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask an admin.
Videos[[edit source]]
Hey. Please be aware that non-admin are not allowed to post videos to this wiki. The ones you uploaded are prime examples of why. First of all, videos must be from a YouTube source that has all the necessary rights to the content. File:Doctor Who Dimensions In Time - Children In Need 1993 (HQ - 480p) was ripped by some guy's video collection. Likewise, File:It's a gas mask does not have the necessary copyrights. While File:The Master steals the Doctor's regenerations - Doctor Who the Movie - BBC does not break Rule 1, it cannot be viewed outside the UK area. This is also not allowed.
For more information on this topic, please see Tardis:Video policy. If you would like to recommend videos to be uploaded by admin, please go to the newly created Tardis:Video recommendations, or T:VREC. Thank you.

Images and videos[[edit source]]
Hi! As a new user, you are not aware of our many rules regarding image and video uploading. Your recent uploaded images have been deleted. Please review Tardis:Image use policy before uploading any more images. In addition, as SmallerOnTheOutside mentioned above, only admins are allowed to upload videos. Please review Tardis:Video policy. Thanks! Shambala108 ☎ 04:10, September 7, 2013 (UTC)
Banned[[edit source]]
T:VID is one of our very most important rules. It shows that we are making a good faith effort to honour the BBC's copyright. I don't think it's at all possible you could have posted a video without seeing, several times, a clear warning not to do it. The punishment provided by policy is very clear and very harsh. Although we normally do give people warnings before we ban them — as Shambala108 quite properly did, above — I'm countermanding her in this instance. Reviewing the nature of what you uploaded, I simply cannot allow you to retain editing rights on this wiki.

Additional detail: It is never a pleasant thing to have to permanently ban a user — especially a new user. We want to try hard to help you become an asset to the site. But when people directly threaten the site, as you've unfortunately done, we just can't take a chance that they'll reform.
Let me be clear: nobody in the nine-year history of this wiki has ever committed so many gross copyright violations in so short a time as you did in the past 24 hours or so.
You uploaded multiple full versions of complete shows, including, but not limited to, the entire audio of Doctor Who at the Proms (2013). You uploaded well over a dozen fan-made videos which illegally used BBC content. And you've uploaded new versions of videos on top of old versions, compromising the known copyright status of the original file.
Since there is no way – absolutely no way — that you can upload a video to this site without seeing the big, bold words, "only admin may add videos to this site", you are automatically deemed to have known that what you were doing was contrary to site policy. Not only that, but during the time you uploaded these videos, there was an active forum discussion highlighted that was all about the creation of a new way for users to recommend videos for admin to upload.
Thus, you don't even have what Shambala108 was trying to give you to fall back on: ignorance of policy. Unless you have an inability to read English, which is unlikely, only one conclusion presents itself: You knew the deal, and yet you chose to ignore it. Wilful violation of T:VID must be met with permanent banning for the rule to retain any useful integrity. And that's why we reluctantly, not joyously or frivolously, cannot allow you the luxury of a second chance.

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]
As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.
This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!
We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.
2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
Banned again[[edit source]]
You have been banned again for violating Tardis:Video policy, the same policy that got you banned before the Christmas amnesty. All your contributions have been deleted. Shambala108 ☎ 17:28, January 13, 2014 (UTC)
Images[[edit source]]
Right, so: I'm not an admin, but I feel that I should inform you of what's required when uploading images. A recent image which you uploaded (File:Oliver Charles Skin Suit.jpg) is a fine screenshot, and is in the correct file format (.jpg). But, no license was given for the image. The image in question would be tagged most appropriately with "BBC screenshot", and that alone shouldn't leave the image as a candidate for deletion - however, it would also be good to tag the image for what episode it comes from (in this case, "Aliens of London TV story images"). Hopefully this helps for future uploads. (additionally, I'd suggest a read of Tardis:Copyright tags) Cookieboy 2005 ☎ 11:48, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
