User talk:NightmareofEden

From Tardis Wiki, the free Doctor Who reference
Welcome to the Tardis:About NightmareofEden

Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:
~ ~ ~ ~

Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask on my talk page. Revanvolatrelundar 19:56, May 10, 2018 (UTC)

New editor[[edit source]]

Hi, please make sure to read Tardis:Discussion policy and Tardis:We're Wikipedia's evil twin. Also, be careful about removing things from articles. You are new here and may not be completely familiar with how we do things. If you have a question about why something is or isn't, ask an admin. Thanks, Shambala108 22:04, May 10, 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I don't want to pile a lot of rules on you at once, but you should read Tardis:No personal attacks. This wiki doesn't allow any kind of personal attacks anywhere, including in edit summaries. And it is hard to gauge someone's tone from their text, so it's best to avoid the sarcastic comments in your editing. Thanks, Shambala108 22:48, May 10, 2018 (UTC)

Civility and policies[[edit source]]

Hi, whether you are new to this wiki or somebody returning under a different alias, your edits (especially the deleted ones) suggest that at least one of your goals is to ridicule this wiki. Please be advised that this is not entirely a wise course of actions. You should (re)acquaint yourself with the following policies Tardis:You are bound by current policy, Tardis:Do not disrupt this wiki to prove a point and Tardis:Edit wars are good for absolutely nothing.

Please refrain in the future from stating in edit summaries things like "we do not" or "we do". As a user whose official record began today, you are not qualified to talk on behalf of this wiki. If you are, in fact, an experienced user, you are free to announce this fact or edit under your other alias. It would still not be your place to talk on behalf of the wiki, but at least your words would carry some weight.

Finally, when an admin instructs you about policies or requests additional information, you should not undo admin's edits. You are blocked for one day for ignoring admin instructions and disruptive behaviour that caused deletion of four talk pages. Amorkuz 22:53, May 10, 2018 (UTC)

I promise John Leeson is credited on the back of the CD case! Why would I lie about that? OncomingStorm12th should never have reverted my edit in the first place. Neither you nor them own the disc. If there were anbody else around who owns the disc you'd know. Also, I'm sorry for ridiculing such important content as Underpants, Masturbation, Turkey baster, Penis gourd, and Walter the Worm. NightmareofEden 23:02, May 10, 2018 (UTC)

Several things.

  1. Nobody accused you of lying. I requested evidence for a contentious point. If you cannot or are not willing to provide it, you should not modify the page.
  2. Whether John Leeson is credited is not the question in dispute. The question is: how he is credited? Note that this is the second time you did not write exactly what you meant. This is why I would prefer see the credits rather than hear you describe them. T:CAST requires an exact knowledge anyways, for which a scan would be needed. When I see the scan, I would know how it needs to be coded. Since this user handle is just one day old, it is reasonable to assume that you may not know all the relevant policies to code it properly yourself.
  3. Once again, you should once and for all stop telling other editors what they should or should not have done. They are your equals and have as much right to make modifications as you. Contentious points are to be discussed on the talk page, moderated by admin.
  4. You cannot possibly know what other editors own or not own. So please stop making spurious claims. They do not help your credibility.
  5. Finally, regarding your initial edits, I'm afraid you are missing the point. It does not matter what you chose to ridicule. It matters that your first edits were devoted to ridiculing at all. Let me remind you that in one of your now deleted tirades, you complained about the validity policies of this wiki, as well as about decisions regarding certain categories. In other words, you were ridiculing the wiki because you do not like some of the policies agreed upon by community discussion. That was a direct violation of T:POINT.

Moving forward, you have a day to prepare evidence in order to effect the change you desire. In similar cases in the future, if a more experienced editor/admin undoes your edit, do not undo it back. Instead, start a discussion on the talk page of the page in question. Do not issue sarcastic/ironic/sardonic/pithy remarks in edit summaries: this is not a Die Hard movie. You would achieve the desired edits much faster if you do not start by alienating other editors. Amorkuz 23:44, May 10, 2018 (UTC)

  1. I didn't say anybody did.
  2. That's not true! OncomingStorm12th kept telling me to relocate it to the 'Uncredited Cast' section.
  3. Once again, I own the disc so am in a better position to discuss it.
  4. Well yes I can know, otherwise you'd know my edits were valid.
  5. You're taking this wiki way too seriously. I mean, when you have pages on Underpants, Turkey baster, Walter the Worm, Penis gourd, and Masturbation ON A DOCTOR WHO WIKI you should expect to be mocked.

A second chance[[edit source]]

As it's been (very nearly) two years since the start of your ban, and since you came to me on Community Central to say you do regret your past behaviour1, I'm removing your ban (with a warning). This is on the understanding that there's been time enough for me to trust that you'll be able to handle any conflicts that come up more amiably. Always assuming good faith, we don't need to be held up about past tensions or poor resolutions if it won't be a problem again.

That said, so you know, you will not find the same degree of lenience if this does become an issue.

With the understanding that you've been formally warned to keep T:NO WARS and T:DISCUSS in mind in future interactions, welcome back to the Tardis community! :)

Categories[[edit source]]

Hi please note that the pages you are adding Category:Rapists to have no mention in the article of them being rapists. Therefore you cannot put the category on the page. If it is supported by any story, then they can get the category, but if not, you must not re-add it. Thanks Shambala108 01:40, April 24, 2020 (UTC)

Parodies[[edit source]]

Hi per Tardis:Valid sources parodies are not valid sources. Not a precedent, but an actual policy. Thanks Shambala108 03:01, April 27, 2020 (UTC)

World Enough and Time enemy discussion[[edit source]]

Hey there. Given your recent edit, feel free to join in the discussion at Talk:World Enough and Time (TV story). Snivy The coolest Pokemon ever 18:57, April 29, 2020 (UTC)

RE: Clarifying[[edit source]]

Yeah, just saw you going through their edits. I probably should have checked their overall contributions. The page did seem fishy to me but I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt ;). Snivy The coolest Pokemon ever 20:07, April 29, 2020 (UTC)

Block[[edit source]]

This user is blocked for a month. She messaged me on another wiki about the block, and for my convenience I'm copying my answer from there to here.

Your original block on the Tardis wiki (by Amorkuz) was infinite, but you appealed to SOTO, who removed your block. SOTO specifically said that due to your previous behavior, "you will not find the same degree of lenience if this does become an issue."
Even though you removed the poster's vandalism, you posted on his talk page that the only reason you opposed the vandalism was because it wasn't funny. You then proceeded to create a page (and an accompanying talk page) where you planned to list examples of previous vandalism that you found funny and that if someone plans to vandalize the wiki, they should try to be funny.
My only conclusion is that you were encouraging vandalism on the wiki. If you will notice, I gave you a one-month block, despite the fact that I felt your behavior deserved another infinite block. Please keep in mind when you come back that we have enough trouble with vandalism on the wiki without you actively encouraging it.

Front Page[[edit source]]

Hi, just wanted to see if you had any new suggestions for Thread:271657, since you created it. Hope you're well. Never Forget The Day The 456 Arrived 23:47, June 22, 2020 (UTC)

Companions and Spin-offs[[edit source]]

Hi, just wondering what your rationale was for deleting the bullet point about companions getting their own spin-offs? I definitely know that I missed Erimem, but what is the controversy you mentioned in the edit summary? Never Forget The Day The 456 Arrived 21:40, July 29, 2020 (UTC)

Locations outside the universe[[edit source]]

I apologise, I didn't have time the other day to explain. The idea behind Locations outside universe was to include places like House from The Doctor's Wife, places that are outside the universe but which don't belong to other realities.

I'm more than open to suggestions about the name, of course. We could look into adding subcategories for other universes if you think that makes sense, so long as they're not also in the parent category.

Why don't we take this to the category talk page so more voices can get involved?

Massive irretrievable data loss[[edit source]]

Shame when that happens, isn't it? I've gone through and tried to add some context to the redlinks. – n8 () 15:40, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

A Groatsworth of Wit[[edit source]]

Hi, just saw your contribution to Doctor Who - list of appearances, and I genuinely curious as to where inA Groatsworth of Wit Doctor Who is seen?

16:14, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Do you happen to have an image of it? I don't believe I own the story in question, and this has piqued my interest. 17:11, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
You could send the photo to me via Twitter or Discord, or perhaps some other platform, like Reddit of Flickr or Facebook, etc. (I'm on a lot of platforms tbh!) 19:35, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Commodity form[[edit source]]

Saying they're not ideologically equipped rather than dismissing it is, /sniffle/ pure ideology. It's not like the SEP is a venue largely in favor of "bourgeois economics" (lol), and the article I reference is explicitly written by socialists; one of which is a Marxist, one of which I believe is heavily influenced by Rawls (and who among us is not influenced by Rawls?). But this is getting far afield of the issues of this wiki. The issue I'm having is the wording that

Capitalism was typically defined as opposed to

When we don't have a definition of capitalism in-universe. I haven't listened to Brotherhood, hence why I asked for clarity rather than just changing the statement outright, and there may indeed be a separate source saying they're defined in opposition without giving definitions. But the wiki page for Communism doesn't seem to suggest we can say this, for instance.

Capitalism is sometimes juxtaposed with

Seems to be the better wording based on the sources, from what I can see, but if I'm wrong, please, feel free to push back. I'm just unsure quite how this bit works with what we're given, and that's what I'm trying to find out. Najawin 20:18, 29 January 2021 (UTC)

Comment at RadMatter's talk page[[edit source]]

Hi! Just notifying you that I've received a complaint from User:RadMatter about your comment on his talk page regarding the "plot summaries" thing. While I'm glad you agree with me on the virtues of long plot summary, I have to admit your message is indeed worded in a needlessly confrontational manner, skirting (though not reaching) the borders of T:NPA, especially the characterisation of Rad's actions as "running to another admin". Please try to assume good faith. Scrooge MacDuck 23:31, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Signing stuff[[edit source]]

Eden ily but if you don't start signing your talk page messages with ~~~~ I'm going to [redacted] you – n8 () 17:46, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, I'd noticed that, but I assumed it was a bit. Apologies for my misplaced concern, and I'm glad you're feeling better. – n8 () 18:18, 15 July 2021 (UTC)

Hang-in order[[edit source]]

I know I’m not the only Italian who would appreciate your passionate invariance, but I feel obliged to intervene with the offer of a gift of some little use-value. I’ve got form, and content, much like yours, but I question the wisdom of making your #227 here. The little critical asides you’ve added are, sadly, tel(o/l)s that the legacy you’ve inherited owes more to the misreads of some very silly Frenchmen than the red-blooded Prussian we so admire. I hope your path takes you as far as mine has, and that we might one day find they converge; for the meanwhile, I’d recommend you temper your Reason further, lest you find yourself labouring fruitlessly and provoking other, not-to-be-named users, whose self-importance lies in advance (to the right) of mine. 58.7.173.29talk to me 20:21, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Edit summaries[[edit source]]

Hi please do not indicate your disagreement with established rules in your edit summaries. That is most definitely not the place for such comments thanks Shambala108 05:56, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

OK that's fair enough I suppose there's not much room for that kind of discussion in a small little edit summary and I do apologise for bringing it up there but not for doing so at all, because seriously though WHY is it that;

1. Any other kind of adaptation (such as audio adaptation, TV adaption of an EU story, etc.) is listed seperately in the infobox 2. Novelisations themselves are listed seperately in "list of appearances" pages 3. Novelisations aren't listed seperately in infoboxes

Seems a bit... just odd to me, is all. NightmareofEden 10:32, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

Removing tags[[edit source]]

Hi please don't remove delete tags from pages, even if the user didn't leave a reason. Once it's placed, it either requires discussion or deletion by admin if it's a simple matter (as in this case, where the image didn't have an image and wasn't DW related). Leaving the tag makes it easier for admins to decide whether it merits a discussion thanks Shambala108 02:22, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

Vandals[[edit source]]

Hi please don't engage with vandals. They want attention. Thanks Shambala108 22:50, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

Edit summaries[[edit source]]

Hi please explain to me how you could possibly think that it's appropriate to post in edit summaries:

"This section is for recurring characters though, not "significant" ones or whatever nonsense you're babbling about now, as usual."

and

"This section is only for recurring characters!!!!!! Whoever added these characters to the infobox.. either read the rules or LEAVE THIS WIKI AND NEVER COME BACK!!!!",

especially when you've been warned multiple times in the past about the proper use of edit summaries and personal attacks. Shambala108 00:47, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

Ah, yes, sorry about that. I got a bit too enthusiastic there. NightmareofEden 17:47, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Primary topics[[edit source]]

Hey! Regarding your edit summary at Invaders from Mars — that's not actually correct. If you'll look at Tardis:Disambiguation#Primary topics, you'll see that the Wiki has come to recognise for some time now that there are certainly cases where the real-world person is the primary topic rather than the in-universe counterpart. Also, we do actually endeavour to have different pages for a real-world topic and its in-universe counterpart, if at all possible. It's untidy to have pages simultaneously in in- and out-of-universe categories, given we want new editors to get a really strong grasp of the way in which those are supposed to be two completely different category trees. Scrooge MacDuck 18:19, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Really? Well, in that case there are many, many pages that need to be split, and George Coulouris is just one of them. I assume the real actor would be the primary topic in that case? NightmareofEden 17:46, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Edit summary notes[[edit source]]

I've found that people often don't read through page history / edit summaries before themselves editing; and comments like "see my last edit summary" [on another page] won't be helpful to future editors who would have to scroll who-knows-how-far back through your contributions to see what you edited beforehand. Instead, for edits like this one, have you considered leaving your notes in the article itself by using <!-- comment blocks -->  ? Just a suggestion! – n8 () 17:33, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

OK, I'll keep that in mind. Thank you. Also, wow I haven't checked this page in ages. That's having anxiety for you, I guess. Every notification I get on any social media is terrifying, pretty much. NightmareofEden 17:48, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Re: Companions[[edit source]]

No, a lot of other characters than the Doctor have companions. As a rule of thumb, if a given character has a "Category:Companions of…" category or a template of the same, it's safe to say that stories where they appear with such companions should use the |companion= fields.

That being said, it shouldn't overreach into every character with a sidekick of any kind. I suppose Parker may be a stretch. But as to the general issue, no, "companion=" can definitely be used with other characters, e.g. Iris Wildthyme. Scrooge MacDuck 10:26, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

For(u)m Letter[[edit source]]

Hey there, I hope your Halloween was decent. As you might know, we've not had forums for over two years at this point. A few of the regular editors have been having a discussion on this topic at Forum talk:Index and we'd like the input of other prominent editors if you have the inclination. Cheers.
