Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Image upload namesedit source

Hi. It's not a major thing, but when uploading images keep in mind the length of the file names, just in case that image needs to be used again, ease of typing etc should be taken into account File:The 10th Doctor puuting in the rest of his regeneration into his hand so that his body woulded change.jpg is a very descriptive title, but rather long. (Also remember to select licensing when uploading images, this adds a licensing template saving users from adding it later). Thanks --Tangerineduel 16:16, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Editsedit source

How many edits can you make to Jack Harkness in the 20th Century?! :P Hahaa I'm joking of course. Where did you get that picture of Jack in 1965? Cos I need some screencaps for Children of Earth but I can't seem to find any... Thanks! --Will101 21:15, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Thank you! --Will101 10:37, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Categoriesedit source

Categories for in-universe items need to be of an in-universe nature. So for example items that are Sarah Jane Smith's are in Category:Sarah Jane Smith's items. Having categories like The Sarah Jane Smith Adventures' items, doesn't really work, not the least because it's adding in-universe items and fitting them into an out-of-universe structure but also because if the category existed it would likewise need to be mirrored across Torchwood and Doctor Who (which would result in gigantic categories).

Additionally when creating categories watch out for the apostrophe use. The category as you created it: Category:The Sarah Jane Adventures item's is incorrect (grammatically), the apostrophe in this situation denotes possession. Which Category:Sarah Jane Smith's items does correctly (which states these are Sarah Jane Smith's items). The apostrophe here states that these items (plural) are Sarah Jane Smith's (possessive apostrophe) Thanks. --Tangerineduel 15:32, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Jack Harkness editsedit source

Hi, there. I was in the middle of an extensive edit to the Jack Harkness page when you added the EW pic. Given that I had edits in almost every paragraph, merging them with your edit was not feasible, and I simply replaced your text with mine. As far as I could tell, the only change you made was adding the pic, which I added back in afterwards. If you made any other changes that I missed, please take a look at it again. Sorry!

Torchwood Series 1/2/3 Charactersedit source

Hi, as I've previously stated categories applied to in-universe elements need to be in-universe, therefore 'Tochwood Series 1/2/3 Characters doesn't work. By calling them 'characters' it places the category out-of-universe because you're using an out of universe perspective in order to classify them. --Tangerineduel 11:59, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

But they characters they even have it for the srcubs wikipeadia page. --User:Silversurfer06 23:17, April 13, 2010 (UTC)
This isn't a Scrubs wiki, nor is it Wikipedia. The rules there are not the same as the rules here. -- sulfur 23:54, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

Image licensingedit source

Hi, please USE the licensing drop down menu when uploading images such as screenshots. If you don't other editors have to manually add the copyright tags to the images. For all your most recent image uploads it would have involved 2 extra clicks to select the drop down menu and BBC screenshots. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 13:09, August 26, 2010 (UTC)

Spoilersedit source

Please do not put spoilers onto main articles. Appearances in future episodes count as spoilers and therefore should not go on character pages until the episode airs. The Thirteenth Doctor 22:59, October 1, 2010 (UTC)

Creating articlesedit source

Please follow the Tardis:Format for Television Story Entries when creating a TV story article. For The Sarah Jane Adventures please copy the text on the Template:Infobox Sarah Jane Adventures, this contains the correctly formatted links to The Sarah Jane Adventures series pages etc. It really saves other editors cutting and pasting and fixing up an article.

Additionally please note the basic requirements for creating an TV story article. Without these a page may be deleted. --Tangerineduel 15:21, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

Promotional imagesedit source

Please do not add promotional images to articles, this means you cannot add the image of Gwen Cooper from "Miracle Day" since it#s a promo. This is part of our manual of style, and may been seen as vandalism and can get you blocked if you continue to do so. Mini-mitch\talk  20:51:07 Fri 15 Jul 2011

Image licensingedit source

I note that you have re-uploaded file:Fbgdb.jpg without correcting the issue that got that picture deleted in the first place. As you have been told by Tangerineduel], and as is clear in tardis:Image use policy and help:files and the current revision of MediaWiki:Community-corner, all uploaded images must have one of our copyright licenses attached. This policy is strictly enforced on this wiki, even if it is not on other Wikia wikis.

We have a responsibility to clearly tell people who use our site who owns the copyright on the pictures we display. Please return to the picture noted above, and any other pictures you may have recently uploaded, and ensure they bear an appropriate copyright template. In the case of the above-named picture, that license is screenshot. All you have to do is copy and paste that phrase on the file.

In the future, we urge you to use Special:Upload and Special:MultipleUpload, both of which provide a convenient drop-down menu of licenses.

Thanks :)

Christmas cheeredit source

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
