The Viet Cong were one of the sides in the Vietnam War. After becoming a companion of the Time Lord known as the Colonel, Vietnam veteran Roderick Mitchell was said to "rush into battle against Cybermen, Daleks, or Sontarans with the same enthusiasm he showed ten years [prior] against the Viet Cong".
