The Waltons is an American drama series from the 1970s, set during the Great Depression. Often in modern parlance, including the context Missy uses it in the story, the phrase "the Waltons" is used mockingly to refer to an overly quaint and sentimental image of the idealised "simple common folk", such as the stereotypical Middle America nuclear family. However, it is not specifically identified as having this meaning in-universe.
