As part of the subterfuge to end the Threllip invasion of Earth, the Eighth Doctor convinced the Threllip that jubilation in Ferrara, a result of Italy's win in the 1982 World Cup Final, was actually a sign of an illness called "World Cup Fever", to which the Threllips were also susceptible.
