This unnamed abbot was a monk who lived in Cumbria in the 13th century.
In 1207, the abbot was alerted by Paul, a young monk, that the bells of Saint John were ringing. The abbot and Paul descended into the monastery where they informed "Mad Monk" of this development. The abbot told Paul that although the man was not a monk, he was quite possibly mad; citing "the Woman Twice Dead" as the source of his madness. (TV: The Bells of Saint John)
