This unnamed abbot was a monk who lived in Cumbria in the 13th century.

In 1207, the abbot was alerted by Paul, a young monk, that the bells of Saint John, which was the phone on the outside of the TARDIS, were ringing. The abbot and Paul descended into the monastery where they informed the Eleventh Doctor of this development. (TV: The Bells of Saint John)
