Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:
~ ~ ~ ~

Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask an admin.

No HTML in the body of articles

Please observe T:NO HTML

Thanks very much for filling in the plot summary for the first episode of The Crusade. However, there was a technical fault to your editing. According to this report from the page history at The Crusade, you inserted a lot of raw HTML into The Crusade#The Lion (1). Please do not do this. Thanks :)

Ahh, so there was a pesky li'l intervening edit. Thanks for pointing that out! Helped me uncover the source of a number of similar edits without having to laboriously check back through every edit history.

Request

Can I make a request. One actor pages instead of putting DW can you write the show out in full, i.e

X actor played person in the Doctor Who story name of story.

Colony in Space

I'm not seeing anything like you're describing. And there's nothing alarming in the page history. Please clear your cache, reload that page, and tell me if you're still experiencing problems with the page. Thanks :)

Vanddalism and edit button

Your vandal has been dealt with, hopefully. He/She was using a number of different IP addresses, so hopefully I've implemented a range block that will effectively bar him/her.

I'm a little more concerned about the report you're giving about your edit button. Could you please describe the circumstances under which you're unable to use it?

 • What browser and version is giving you issues?
 • Is it only on user pages, or every page?
 • Is the drop down menu not working or is it the whole button? That is, are you only barred from looking at history and move, or does pressing the edit button do nothing?

Yours is the first report I've heard of this little loss of functionality, so I'm very eager to nip it in the bud before lots of users start having issues.

(As a short term solution, I suggest you install the skin changing button and edit in Monobook on those occasions when you need access to buttons you can't get to in Wikia. See Forum:Monobook users: please install this code for instructions.)

czechout<staff />   17:37: Sun 15 Apr 2012

Well, there's your problem. We don't support IE. Please install Safari, Firefox, or Chrome. Our of curiosity, though, what's the exact version number of IE that you're using?
czechout<staff />   01:57: Mon 16 Apr 2012
Also, please make sure that you have cleared your cache. Work is ongoing with restyling the wiki, so you may not be looking at the most current version of the code. Even so, you are strongly urged to abandon IE for a Mozilla or webkit browser. As IE's position in the marketplace continues to dwindle — and it's currenly under 20% — we've felt increasingly confident in just abandoning support for it. It's simply more trouble than it's worth trying to maintain its peculiarities.

Edits

Yes sorry about that. My computer can be very faulty sometimes and I can get chucked out of the edit page, so sometimes it takes 5 times to write a sentence.

I think when I made an edit on one page and then took it away is because I made a mistake. I though a piece of information wasn't visible on the page, but it actually was. --Cyruptsaram 16:41, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Is there a way of stopping it somehow? Have you done something to stop it before (as you'd probably believe, it's very frustrating, it takes 10 minutes to write a paragraph)? --Cyruptsaram 17:00, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Infobox only taking one actor

Just saw several of your recent edits. What you've said in the edit summary is not actually true. I've made an edit to the Second Doctor article to illustrate this. There are three actor fields, see Infobox Individual for more info. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:32, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake, read the edit summary too quickly. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:34, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Please use only, not appearances

When creating an infobox on the page of a person who has only one appearance, please use the variable {only}, not {appearances}. Thanks :)

Documentary categorisation

Hey, please familiarise yourself with the subcategories Documentaries. All documentaries should go into one of the more specific categories there. There's no way you could have known this, of course, but the reason category:Doctor Who DVD documentaries was kept around was because this category was going to facilitate an editing track in the Game of Rassilon. Because of Wikia's protracted problems in trying fix the achievement badges, however, we've had to put all new tracks on hold. So this "mega" category is just sorta sittin' there doin' nothin' useful. Any category that has over about a hundred entries is little too big for a human to digest. So documentaries should be in more specific categories like Production spotlight documentaries, Writing spotlight documentaries, Real history spotlight documentaries and the like.
czechout<staff />    03:29: Tue 04 Sep 2012

Nah, you're not causing trouble at all. You're just pointing out things we need to explain better. Good thing I'm rewriting all the policies and tutorials at the moment. :) There's a big new tutorial on categories coming soon.
czechout<staff />    03:36: Tue 04 Sep 2012
Here's a good list for you.

Publication --> Anthology

Hey, thanks for doing the switches, but if you're noticing a pattern, just let me know what the pattern is, and I can fire up the bot and do it in a flash. :) Also no need to type out that whole, long forum title in the summary. It's not really from a forum decision. It's actually just a part of the template instructions, directly stated at , so your edit summary doesn't have to be anything more than "upholding temp doc" or something equally brief.
czechout<staff />    03:27: Sat 08 Sep 2012

Kudos for finding a job for the bot then. Feel free to go on to more fun work. Can you just give me a link or three for stories which are mistakenly using publication instead of anthology? It'll help me make the bot coding a little more foolproof.

Talking About

Thanks for reporting this issue. I've passed it on to the people at w:c:vstf, who will handle it from here. This will probably be resolved within 48 hours. In the meantime, please create your page offline so that it's ready for eventual uploading.

Alternately, I can suggest that you create it at a near title match that the spam filter will allow — maybe Talkin About Regeneration (documentary), and then we'll move it to the proper place once the phrase "Talking About" gets struck from the list.
czechout<staff />    01:56: Mon 17 Sep 2012

You can follow the case by clicking here.
czechout<staff />    01:59: Mon 17 Sep 2012
This is all clear now, and has been for some time. Any time you want to write start the article at Talking About Regeneration (documentary), you may.

the Editor

Noticed your recent edit and got me thinking, would there be a way for us to incorporate something like Wikipedia:Template:lowercase title for pages like this? Like for example how Wikipedia:De Moivre's formula displays a lowercase D. +Yc 04:35, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Eh well I think it would be cool if we could make the title reflect is as otherwise people may only look at the top or the first bolded word as a guide for whether or not to capitalize the definite article. +Yc 05:20, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for correcting my "Shoulder slats" edit on New Dalek Paradigm. I clearly wasn't thinking. Graske of the mandragora 07:35, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

I was trying to add new stuff here, but every time I try to make this wiki expand, I'm told not to do it. I'm Admin at 2 other wikis, and have bee told by many people that I'm a great editor. I'm sorry if u don't like my ways and since I can't edit at free will, I might have to leave, sorry.

User:NancyDrew4ever

I'm sorry, yesterday was a bad day for me. Can I still add new categories though? It would help with the expansion of this wiki :)

Orphaned pages

Yep, one is enough to stop it from showing up in the Special:LonelyPages and yes you can remove orphan when you fix up the links. Though if you can get more than one link to it that's better, but sometimes when I've been going through the LonleyPages I've only ever managed to get one link in.

Also I wanted to say great work throughout the wiki (and on the talk pages as well!). --Tangerineduel / talk 05:49, October 25, 2012 (UTC)

Well Done

Just wanted to drop by and saying well done of your work with the orphan pages. So, well done! You're doing a really good job, keep it up! MM/Want to talk? 23:32, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

Good work on the DVD documentaries but ... =

... I just wanted to check that you intended to come back and fill in the infoboxes you've deliberately left blank. It's really important that the infoboxes get filled out on documentaries, as these infoboxes contain a lot of SMW goodness. If they're filled out properly, we can easily generate lists of who might have produced/directed various documentaries, who was the main interviewer, what documentaries are on which DVDs and the like. Please make sure you go back and fill in all that information.
czechout<staff />    04:40: Thu 15 Nov 2012

My edits are mostly obsessive compulsive ones. I tidy up the layout of the pages by adding lines of spaces in between lines of different "codes". Sorry, can't help it.

-rreg29

Temus

Yep, there's certainly a way to fix it :) Add only source is non-narrative. Thanks for finding this one> If you find any others, just add this tag. My suspicion, now that you've found this one, is that if you looked at Special:WhatLinksHere/The Gallifrey Chronicles (illustrated guide), you'd probably find other articles that need to be deleted.

DWM edits

Hi, thanks for correcting my edits on the DWM pages. I thought they were a mistake being in italic and changed to bold text as on previous and future magazine pages the comic book story titles were in bold as well. Rassilon 19:04, December 20, 2012 (UTC)

My apologies. I meant to add the link, but I messed up and copy pasted the wrong part. After I saw what appeared, I was about to undo it, but you beat me to it. Hotshot70 05:31, December 24, 2012 (UTC)

Hi, could you help me with my mistakes? I was trying to earn badges with all my director pages. What am I doing wrong? Vulkanus13

Renaming pages

Thought I'd leave this note here rather than the construct page, as it's more general info than related to the editing of that article.

To rename any page that isn't move locked (all the story pages are move locked, but in general everything else can be moved/renamed).

On the article page click the triangle next to the edit button, a menu will drop down and "rename" is the third button down.

You'll then be taken to the MovePage page, type in the page's new title and leave a reason for doing so and leave the "rename associated talk page" box ticked so the talk page is moved along with the page. Also leave the "leave a redirect behind" unless you've already changed all the links to the page, then it can be unchecked. Then click rename page and the page will be renamed.

Also of note "rename" used to be called "move", it's only really noteworthy because while it's called rename (and that's what it does) it also moves the page history with it. Any questions please feel free to ask and I'll try to help. --Tangerineduel / talk 16:56, December 26, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, glad I could help you. Once you chance all the links to a page you can put a proposed deletion on the redirect page and state there's no links. That way admins are alerted to a redirect page needing deletion and we won't have an empty redirect page sitting there. --Tangerineduel / talk 06:05, December 27, 2012 (UTC)
I would only add here that this sort of thing is precisely why we have a bot. If there are fewer than 10 links to the old page name and you wanna waste a few minutes, sure go ahead a do a manual changeover of the links. Otherwise, just put a move request on my page, and I'll take care of the move for you. (Tybort makes these requests all the time, so don't feel like you'd be placing a special burden on me.)

Personal attack

You can if you want, if you are offended by it. However, it may also be worthwhile keeping it, to have proof of the personal attack if needs be. I have removed and kept personal attacks. The choice is down to you. MM/Want to talk? 01:32, December 28, 2012 (UTC)

Shalin

Yeah, when Wikia, Inc. are having data center problems, and we start seeing the "I'm so sorry" message, unpredictable things happen. Happily Shalin was restored by deleting and then restoring it. I have successfully edited it twice, so I think it's good to go now. :)
czechout<staff />    04:38: Fri 18 Jan 2013

Your other page is fine now. If you ever need help with this again, and I'm not around, then just tell Tangerineduel, or whichever admin strikes your fancy, to delete the page and then immediately restore it.
czechout<staff />    04:59: Fri 18 Jan 2013
Well I should point out that it doesn't always work. But certainly the first line of defence is for us to try to shake it out ourselves. If the delete-restore fails, then you have to get Wikia Staff involved.
czechout<staff />    05:05: Fri 18 Jan 2013

Apologies for my inattention

I'm sorry that I missed the personal attacks you were being forced to endure at Talk:Tenth Doctor. Obviously you didn't need me to defend you, but it's still one of my jobs to prevent the joint from sliding into a shouting match. Sorry that it took me a day to notice what was going on there.

Supsension and Disbelief

Hey, my Czech senses tingled. Is the character in Suspension and Disbelief supposed to be Dušan, rather than Dusan?

Cool :) Thanks for checking!
czechout<staff />    05:20: Fri 25 Jan 2013

Zaroff

Looks good. You're probably in a better place than me to re-write the article, as it's a favourite of yours. It just needed to be more like an individual pages; an introduction, biography and information. The page at the moment just seemed to have the plot in there rather than information zeroed in his character. Do whatever edits you think does justice to the page. You can remove the cleanup tag without checking with me, I have full confidence in your edits. I added the tag as much as a reminder to myself as an alert to others. One thing, if you can work in his famous quote that'd probably be good, if not in the body of the article I'm sure it can be noted in the Behind the scenes section. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:28, January 26, 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure either. If you don't think the quote works don't put it in there. As I said, go ahead and post it to the article. It all looks good, but Menace isn't a story I've listened to a great many times, so I defer to your knowledge on this one. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 13:14, January 27, 2013 (UTC)

Image overrun in iPad wikia full site display

From what I've seen of the problems with the pictures, it mostly happens when a picture is pushed down by other graphic elements in the page, usually the infobox and the table of contents. I've been having a lot of luck from just moving the pictures in the text so that the elements don't interfere with each other. It's usually not difficult, and it means you won't see the problem in any browsers. --ComicBookGoddess 04:38, March 13, 2013 (UTC)

Spoilers

Could you please be more specific with what you think offends spoiler policy at Big Finish Doctor Who audio stories and The Companion Chronicles? Just the names of future publications? If so, I suppose that is a kind of spoiler, and could see the rationale for the use of the spoiler tag. But these pages are "series pages", so the mere presence of names of future publications isn't a problem, really.
czechout<staff />    04:58: Tue 19 Mar 2013

Like I said, I can see the rationale for the use of the spoiler tag so feel free to deploy it. But I'd be opposed to removing any of the content from the page, as it's consistent with what is typically allowed on a series page.
I suppose I gave up a little bit on trying to control the flow of information about audio plays, since Big Finish recently admitted they did not have exact release dates. That makes the normal tight control we have over television stories impossible with audio stories.
But I have no issue with your desire to put a spoiler tag on The Companion Chronicles, until 1 July 2014, and indefinitely on the other article.

Admin

If nominated, would you accept the position of administrator?
czechout<staff />    05:13: Tue 19 Mar 2013

Any thoughts on this? It's okay to say no, but this is a good time to nominate a new admin, due to the fact that more people tend to return to the wiki while DW is in season. More people here means that the likelihood of a lively discussion is greater.

Edit Summaries

Sorry, missed that one line when I read it. Also, is there a search that actually works on the help files?--ComicBookGoddess 18:47, March 21, 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, my phone's a ring (acting — there's the work of spell check) up lately. It crashed twice while writing this very message. Generally, anything in parentheses can be wholly disregarded. You can completely ignore it. However, if you're truly wondering, I was just commenting on the fact that I had to write it out four times until the spell check on my phone didn't "correct" infobox. I'm really not used to using my phone for editing...

Anyway, on topic, I know I technically shouldn't be including side notes in edit summaries, but I figured the brackets would warrant an ignore. Oh well... --SOTO 06:02, March 22, 2013 (UTC)

Personal attack?

I'm sorry if I somehow offended you, but I am positive that I did not call you ignorant. Or even imply it. In fact, the word 'ignorant' does not show up in the entire thread! I also know myself to be highly respective of others' opinions, so I'm entirely clueless as to where you thought I 'attacked' you. I mean, if I did so unintentionally and somehow still don't notice it, I apologise. But can you elaborate on how I "called you a name?" I'm truly curious. Thanks!
--SOTO 19:24, March 29, 2013 (UTC)

My computer just deleted my very thoughtful message. :'-(
Anyway, I'll try to write it again: Now I understand. Sorry for the confusion — number one: I was actually referring to myself; number two: the only reason I wrote that part of the sentence in the second person was to generalise the statement, that it's always better to ask the community before implementing your own decision. I was simply explaining why I decided to carry out a vote, rather than just say that we're merging. Like I said, after the broadcast of Bells, we'll start a new discussion, but we need to pick one or the other first. I can understand how you'd misread that. I'll edit the message to make that more clear.
--SOTO 19:42, March 29, 2013 (UTC)
Just to clarify, I was saying that it would have been arrogant of me to just decide on my own that we're merging the articles, which is why I carried out the vote. I was willing to go either way; it was only crutial that one be chosen. Now that the community has decided to merge, in conjunction with wiki policy, only then can I say that we're merging, at least temporarily.
--SOTO 19:50, March 29, 2013 (UTC)
:) Yes, even I've been called much worse in my short span here — I'm not the type to get offended, though. Anyway, I guess I'll just have to be even more careful with my wording in the future... --SOTO 23:28, March 29, 2013 (UTC)

Admin nomination

Sorry that I didn't see your first acceptance of the nomination. Thank you very much for agreeing to accept greater responsibilities, pending confirmation. Your nomination is now live at Tardis:User rights nominations#Shambala108, and will remain open for seven days.

It's a bit unclear how this will go. The last nomination we had failed due to an overwhelming lack of interest. Other nominations in the past have attracted a fair amount of positive and negative comment. I'm hoping, though, that since this nomination comes right in the middle of the season, more people will be attracted to it.

There's nothing really for you to "do" during the confirmation process except to wait to see what happens. If people ask you questions during the discussion, it's important that you answer them promptly. If people outright oppose you and give (reasonable) objections, it's equally important to address those concerns in the best way you see fit. This means that you have to keep checking back on your nomination page, because there's no way to give you an automatic alert.

Please don't start a new section on the nomination page as this will screw up the easy-to-use buttons that I've provided at Thread:126844.

In anticipation of the successful conclusion of your nominations, you may want to start paying more attention to the help files that are located at category:admin help.
czechout<staff />    22:17: Thu 04 Apr 2013

Suggested reading/viewing

Though we've still got a few days before the nomination officially closes, it looks like it's going pretty well. So I wanted to take a few moments to point you in the direction of some things you might want to read as and when you get time over the next week.

 • A guide to the way the Game of Rassilon (generically called Achievements on the rest of wiki) works
 • A video overview of what admin do by Sarah Manley, one of the lead Wikia Staff members. 41 minutes.
 • A 21-minute video about some of the wiki management tools available to you. I think you already know all this stuff, but maybe you can just skim it with your finger on the "fast forward" button.
 • A 45-minute introduction to templates. Like I said in the nomination, the only area of your wiki activity that concerns me is your apparent lack of interest in the template namespace. So I'm thinking, perhaps wrongly, that you need to have them demystified. The thing is, a lot of our templates are admin-edit-only, so someone some day might come to you and ask you to correct an error, and you need to at least feel comfortable enough to make simple changes to templates.
 • community:VSTF, for an overview of what the Volunteer Spam Task Force is, and who are its members. It's good to know who the VSTF members are so that you don't get freaked out if you happen to notice them doing stuff in Special:Log. Also, it's good to know user:sulfur, in particular, cause he kinda watches out for us, since he's a bureaucrat over at Memory Alpha. So if you happen to be here one night and I'm not here and the sun hasn't come up in Australia where Tangerineduel lives—and suddenly the place gets attacked—you can leave a message at user talk:sulfur or go to w:c:vstf or the emergency IRC hotline. (Don't worry, though, we usually only have one really bad attack a year.)
 • community:Blog:Wikia Technical Updates, a page you'll want to bookmark. Sometimes, particularly on Wednesdays, the wiki suddenly "freaks out" because new code has been uploaded. When things go wacky, you'll want to go to his page and read the latest tech update to see what's going on. Of course, I usually do this and then post a message if anything particularly profound is going on, but I'm not always here right at the very moment things go crazy. So don't feel like you'd be stepping on my toes to investigate a tech issue and post an initial explanation of the issue back here.

Well, that's enough for now. But provided your nomination continues to go well, I do want you to try to attend the 26th April webinar on template creation. Just so that you get a bit more on how templates work. It says you need to register, but I usually just walk into them at the last minute. If you can't attend (and it's at 10zm PST/5pm UTC on 26 April), then please make sure you go to community:Webinars a day or so later to pick up the video and watch it.

Admin nomination questions

As CzechOut has mentioned it's a little unclear how this progresses. Mostly because in the past it's been a user requesting adminship rather than a nomination (although technically if you want to be an admin you nominate yourself, so it's never actually a request…except when it is, but it becomes a nomination).

I am usually the one to go through a user's contributions and work out their strengths and weaknesses. Which CzechOut has already done.

I am curious about one thing that CzechOut raised, your lack of edits in the File name space. It won't count against your nomination, as CzechOut has said there's other admins and other editors who are active in that namespace, but I am curious.

I also want to ask you is there anything you're curious about that falls outside of all the information CzechOut has given? Or even that falls within but isn't answered? --Tangerineduel / talk 15:21, April 9, 2013 (UTC)

Policy pages

Hey, almost every policy page should have a link to a forum discussion precedent, although I tend to disguise it by pipe trick for naturalistic English. If you encounter policy pages that don't have a link to the precedent, it probably means that the policy matter is technical, and therefore arises out of necessity rather than discussion, or because there's an error in the policy page. If you think the latter, please either add the precedent policy, if you're aware of it, or let me know so I can track it down. One of the big goals I've had around here is to make the work of the forums obviously relevant by showing how they lead directly to existing policy.

Welcome - Admin

Welcome, you are now an admin here on the TARDIS Data Core. As I've said any questions about anything that CzechOut's detailed list doesn't cover, or anything actually feel free to ask me or any of the other admins. --Tangerineduel / talk 09:55, April 12, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Categories

Understood. I caught on when I saw you had edited Kamelion in the Recent Activity bar and thought you were probably going to flag me down, so I stopped churning out more category edits. That's the most confusing element about categories. You have to keep going down the rabbit hole before you identify the right one, but when they all seem to umbrella over so many articles, it can be tricky for someone like me to double-check if they're accounted for.

Lately, I've been putting "Biologically-modified individuals" onto all pages about Time Lords who have regenerated. Then, I moved on to any individual who has had their body altered in some way, like the Cyber-Conversions or the Pyroviles turning them to stone. Thanks for the advice. I've been skating around several wikis but I've always had to rethink how each one works. --Thunderush 04:43, April 16, 2013 (UTC)

Thank you so much! :D --Thunderush 05:06, April 16, 2013 (UTC)
A category chapter is long overdue in the MOS, and it's now being prepared. The chapter is at T:CAT, and more pages in that chapter will be added throughout the day.
czechout<staff />    17:20: Tue 16 Apr 2013
No worries. Like I said, I should have done it long ago, anyway. Was there any particular categorical situation you wanted to see addressed by the MOS?

Game of Rassilon

Do you have any thoughts on new Game of Rassilon tracks? Have you noticed any categories of pages that seem particularly ignored? You don't necessarily have to make the graphics associated with the GOR, but if you know of a good idea for a track or two, and can identify 8 phrases and pics that would work as badges, let me know!

Moving redirects

Ahh, yes. It'll break something all right. You need to make sure you move all the current links to Face-Painter to Face-Painter (short story). Then and only then can you start to create links to Face-Painter the individual. If you just delete the redirect without first moving all the links, you'll end up with a mess that will be harder-than-necessary to untangle.

This kinda move, by the way, is exactly what speedy rename is for. It's a completely uncontroversial move. So if you put speedy rename on the page, and then go to T:SPEEDY, you'll see exactly how many links are left to be moved. Or you could just click here: Special:WhatLinksHere/Face-Painter.

Keep an eye on User:Nevadabell please

I see you reverted one of Nevadabell's edits, well you'll need to keep an eye on him. He's trouble. I blocked him on Logopedia (for blanking an administrative template, the block notice, which the page creator had forgotten to protect), and he posted an abusive thread at RangerWiki pleading to be unblocked... which led to him getting blocked there too (not by me) for harassment.  Digifiend  Talk  PR/SS  KR  MH  Toku  JD  Garo  TH  CG  UM  Logos  CLG  DW  02:36,26/4/2013

Ths, sts, and rds

Since you've been doing a tonne of editing on years pages, I figured I'd ask you about a recent edit of mine. I edited the page to make it more readable, adding ths, sts, and rds, but before I went off and continued doing this I figured I'd ask if there was a reason that you hadn't done this when you edited the page before me. Anoted 15:20, April 26, 2013 (UTC)

museums and libraries

You mentioned that it's better to have paragraphs are frowned upon. When exactly are lists appropriate? I'm finding a lot of variation and it's a little confusing. For example Type 102 has a "See Also" section that links to two other TARDIS types. But there are lots of TARDIS variants that aren't linked. Some of those pages have small See Also sections, some don't. This is more than a little confusing. Is it just people adding what they know or is there some method to this (seeming) madness? T:SPEEDY

Heh, great minds think alike. I'm literally in process now of moving things with the bot. When an entry reads "there are truly zero links", then any admin may move the page and finish the process by moving the page, almost always by suppressing the redirect.

Note that I don't have to be involved in this process, and I don't have a particular day scheduled to clean up the list — though when Doctor Who is in season I typically do an awful lot of housecleaning on the Friday before a new ep.

As the instructions at T:SPEEDY say, if the number of links is really minor, then anyone can go in and move the remaining links themselves. However, since I've started with this, why not give me about 15 minutes and I'll have all these links changed. Then you can make the page moves yourself and remove the speedy rename tags. Unless you don't want to.

Point is: I made this page to sort of emphasise that it's not just me responsible for page renames, because most speedy renames are actually pretty trivial in terms of the time they take to complete. Anytime you come here and see something that needs doing, feel free.

Re: Distant Past

Gotcha. I was misled by an improper use of the category tag in Series 7 that wasn't my own. I think it was on the episode Hide. --Thunderush 02:17, May 5, 2013 (UTC)

6 April

Delete the page, get rid of the link at 2013, but keep the one at 6 April — it's there for a reason. Czech'll open a discussion regarding the day pages probably this week.

Many Thanks

I needed a second editor to smooth the rough bits of that article. Late-night inspiration makes it hard to skim over your mistakes. After about six or seven people amend your work, it becomes refined. This one wore me down, so it had to get a checkup from somebody else. Now I know I've done good. You've got the veteran experience on this wiki, and I definitely understand the reasoning for keeping articles at a neutral tone: strictly informative, not someone's view of things. And glad to see that read on categorization! It's been said already, but thanks! --Thunderush 19:06, May 7, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Vandal

Thank you. If I had known that reverting his vandalism would have caused this, I wouldn't have bothered. I just don't understand the mindset - are you so immature and so bored that a good use of your time is adding this unadulterated crap to a website which some of us actually work hard on?

I've deleted his comments on my talk page, and I'm done with these unintentional edit wars with him. If I see his edits again, I'm just going to alert an admin straight away. His go-to edit is always at the Controller (Bad Wolf) page, just FYI. TARDIStraveler 15:45, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

Zygon talk page

However, the reason I responded to him to look it up was because the reason he couldn't see a connection to the DWU was that he didn't know what Zygons were. So if he looked up what a Zygon was, he could quickly see that it's an alien from Terror of the Zygons and would no longer be confused. I do admit that my tone was off, and I apologise for that. talk pages

I know how talk pages work. But by the time I got the hypercube both SOTO had replied to Czechout's post on my talk page. Classic Who

Thanks, Shambala! Much (most, really) of my marathon will be first time for me, and I am enjoying the Hartnell era so far. I'm starting to get used to '60s directing. I've actually been surprised at how well represented things are with season 1 — many times, I wanted to create tiny FTRW articles, only to find they're already there. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, especially when I didn't even ask them to you. :D --SOTO 04:22, May 18, 2013 (UTC)

GOR ideas

I haven't ignored your 7 May suggestions. I think they're sound, and the one I think we should go with first is the Benny one. But I don't know nearly enough about Benny to make up fun li'l punny award names. We need 8 names. I'm thinking the following broad notions:

 • something about archaeology
 • something about having students
 • something about drinking
 • something about sex with Eight
 • something about the impermanence of marriage
 • something about the joy of big weddings
 • something about the extreme length of time she was a companion
 • something about Ice Warriors

And that's eight, but I'm not sure they're all particularly sound. Can you maybe help me come up with some more solid notions for the award names? Or if you, too, aren't as Benny-knowledgeable as you might be, could you ask Tangerineduel? Thanks

My reply to your comment

Regarding your comment on my User page, I think my "solution" to the name problem was kind of dismissed by Czech, ignored by people who just skipped it because it was a long post and didn't read it, and then parts of it were reiterated (like about using people's title if that is what they are called).

I also wrote "Unfortunately, this is frequently a problem created by the writers who often don't provide a last name for female characters." This couldn't be made more clearer, I think.

And yet, it seems like some in the discussion think I'm blaming this wiki's users for only using female's first names when it more often happens that, except for main characters, the writers don't give female characters last names. Badwolff 21:52, May 19, 2013 (UTC)

Shambala108, I do appreciate you taking note of this incident and following up on it with me. But considering the snide, condescending remarks I've received (under this username and when I was a lowly IP address), this wouldn't rank in the Top 5 unpleasant interactions I have had over the past month on this wiki. I think it is a consequence on having a small pool of highly devoted editors rather than having a larger number of "occasional" editors (the other wiki) who might be a little more detached.
As a viewer of just the new TV series, I have made statements, asked questions or posed observations that those who know more of the canon than I will find, at best, implausible, and at worst, just plain wrong. And given the intimacy of posting online comments, they don't seem to have any hesitation in pointing out all of my errors, often in a condescending way.
I don't think this conduct is unique to this wiki or to Doctor Who fan groups, but for this program, it's just such an enormous body of TV episodes, comics, audio programs and novels, that I don't think even the most loyal fans can keep it all straight, much less relative newbies like me. I'm here to learn but I'm sure I'll make lots of mistakes because I have limited knowledge (like, well, everyone else). It would be nice if more of the users here were interested in educating newbies instead of mocking or criticizing them. This type of behavior never produces any positive reaction from the person it's directed to and can shut down what might have been a fruitful conversation.
That said, it's just been 7 or 8 encounters I've had that have devolved to this, either in the Forums or on Talk Pages. But, unfortunately, it seems like when people do choose to respond to others, it's usually because they have something negative to say, not because they agree with you. Comments I've made that don't provoke a negative reaction by and large just go unnoticed. Them's the breaks. : / Badwolff 19:50, May 20, 2013 (UTC)
First, thank you for your thoughtful reply. It's appreciated.
Secondly, I wrote all of this (above) in reply to a message you posted on my Talk Page. I didn't bring it up or file a complaint. It's just that since you asked about it, I gave you my rundown on the situation and my experience on this wiki. I do given lengthy responses which I apologize for...it's from too much higher education. It becomes difficult to say things simply.
Finally, some of the snippiness I encountered are from when I was an anonymous user and in one of the situations (mentioned in a post on your Talk Page above), I see you addressed the user for their flippant and curt reply. Oddly though, they apologized to YOU and not on my IP talk page to me! So, I think that gesture was more to get back on your good side than to mend fences.
I am currently being followed around in the Forums and on Talk pages by another user who seems to think I'm very stupid as he takes great pleasure in correcting me. It's been going on for less than two weeks. I didn't want to run to the Admins and file a complaint because it's not my way. You all have plenty of wiki things to do and this is a mild case of harassment. I think it'll blow over and when I see that he is posting right after me, I just go elsewhere to post comments. I'll admit that I called him out on one thread and asked him to leave me alone but I went back and deleted that reply. Best to just not engage, I think. Badwolff 20:45, May 22, 2013 (UTC)
Your request will require tracking down some old posts but I'll try to make time for this. It appears to no longer be an issue though. Badwolff 12:40, May 23, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding. It really is two different kinds of negative remarks: 1) Those I received when I was just an anonymous IP user (it seems like they often receive potshots because who knows if they'll come back?) and 2) A user who was shadowing me last week and giving me a hard time. I think the latter incident has blown over.
But I will let you know if I see a pattern of comments in the future. Of course, I'd prefer to send you a message rather than posting it publicly but that doesn't seem to be an option. Thanks, though for your concern. Badwolff 20:15, May 24, 2013 (UTC)

GOR – Benny ideas & info

Hey, Sorry it's taken me ages to do this. I've been a bit scatterbrained of late so I kinda read your request three times and came up with three different interpretations of what you wanted. Or at least I think so, please ask me again if I've got the wrong end of things.

Here's some fun things to attach to the various tracks for the GOR, I've added a couple of topics of Food and Culture as the ideas came to me while writing this up.

I struggled with coming up with any quotes/punny titles for is the sex with 8 thing. This, for reference is where that's The Dying Days (novel) the last page before the epilogue (which doesn't featured Benny or 8);

Benny hesitated, looking into those deep blue eyes of his. 'Yes. Look, before you leave, there's one thing I have to do. I'd never forgive myself otherwise.'
The Doctor looked puzzled. 'What would that - '
She grabbed the lapels of his frock coat, kissed him square on the mouth and pushed him down hard onto the bed.
Wolsey jumped out of the way.

I also couldn't think of anything for students, as while she's a archaeology professor I can't think of anything off the top of my head that's particularly student relevant. And on the longest travelling companion thing Fitz Kreiner was in more novels than Benny.

 • Archaeology: "You've found coprolite on Apollox 4, Congrats!", "I found the Sword of Forever and all I got was...death",
 • Students:
 • Drinking: "Have a toast; M3 Variant and Potato Spirit",
 • Eating: "Ate pizza in the 60s for the first time",
 • Culture: "Star Trek TNG's a documentary right?",
 • Sex with 8: "Standing naked with the Seventh Doctor; about romantic as a fish", "A Doctor who may change but never die" (actual quote from The Dying Days)
 • Marriage/Weddings: "Sherlock came to the wedding.", "The Brigadier came to the wedding", "Ice Warriors came to the wedding", "Ace had sex with a clone of my husband at the wedding.", "Started naked in a field with an Ice Warrior ended in the arms of Jason",
 • Doctor/Companion length: "Travelled with the Doctor, then worked for his brother.",
 • Ice Warriors: "Shurr…" (It's what the Martians call Benny and is like Dame or something),

Ask/prompt me with other topics and I'll try to dream up some others. Also tell me if I got this wrong and set me right :). --Tangerineduel / talk 16:09, May 24, 2013 (UTC)

So did you have an idea about the images that would match the statements? You don't have to actually provide the images, but if you can point to the cover of comic panel that would work with these, it'll help in speeding the is track through.
czechout<staff />    04:07: Sun 26 May 2013
Thanks much for suggesting this editing track, and for both your help and getting Tangerineduel's. The bot is quickly adding the appropriate category to pages, but for all intents and purposes the track is live now. (The bot will be through in under an hour.)
In the end, I took suggestions from you and TD, and put them into the format: "I dig <whatever>" format so that the track had it's own little "archaeological mantra" of sorts. You can of course view the whole the track by going to Special:AchievementsCustomize and then using your browser's search function to look for "Bernice".
I kinda went a different way from your image suggestion in that I chose to feature pictures of the various people important to her, rather than several different images of her. In fact, the only image of Benny is the very first one.

Hi. Pipe-Switching is probably the best thing that I can do on this wiki since I'm not very good at writing plots and biographies. Cricket

OMG! You found the holy grail. I don't guess you could give me an extended quote from Graham Dilley so that I can find some way of writing an article from the nothing that's there?
czechout<staff />    05:57: Fri 28 Jun 2013

But just to answer your question, "Silly Point" — which we should put in lower case, really — is the combination of two things: silly and point. It's a fielding position that's silly (i.e. close to the batsman, and therefore a stupidly dangerous place to be) and point, or on a direct line with the batsman. If you think of where the batsman stands, the silly point is the fielder who is directly in the batsman's line of sight, right on the 30 yard circle around the pitch. (In the famous Black Orchid cricket scene where Davison bowls a guy out totally in-camera, you can see a guy at silly point when the older gentleman that takes Davison's masterful first bowl comes up to the stumps. Silly point is the guy off to screen left, without pads, at roughly 17'18" into episode 1. So we can actually give a screenshot to any future silly point article.)
As for gully, or gulley, I'm gonna need a more exact quote. I'm thinking he's just talking about fielding positions, so that's just behind silly point, between the point and the slips (the slips being the guys who typically wear the big pads and are, in baseball terms, the catchers). I'm a little unclear from your transcription what's really going on there, though. Is he just randomly spouting words, or is he just continuing to list fielding positions? If it's just random words, he could be talking about "gulley cricket" which is a kinda casual form of the came played in the streets, kinda like stickball is to baseball, or a pickup game of basketball is to "proper", full-court basketball. If I could get an unexpurgated version of the passage, it'd help in writing the consequent articles.
czechout<staff />    06:26: Fri 28 Jun 2013
That is freakin' sweet. You have no idea how long I've been looking for anything crickety from that story. I really need to just turn a blind eye to my wallet next time I'm on Ebay so I can get that story. But in the meantime, I can only say thanks for running across that particular little treasure trove of cricketing terms.

US Marhsal

Hey, I'm gonna deny your speedy rename on United States Marshal. It's title, and therefore a proper noun. So I rolled back your edits to that page. However, in deference to your observation about the DPL-generated list not getting rid of the dab term on Isaac (A Town Called Mercy), I added a line that zapped it away. If you should encounter another instance of a DPL list that's not satisfactorily stripping dab terms, please don't delete the DPL list. Instead, just add this line before the closing </dpl>:

replaceintitle=/\(.*\)/

That way, we can enjoy the benefits of auto-updating DPL and still address your concerns about having awkward dab terms exposed. Sorry that I didn't just use this from the start; I was being lazy.

Re: Uploaded Images

(Answering to this)
Hi, thank you for your answer. Is the problem the image format? PNG is simply the optimal format for screenshots of a pixel-art videogame. While I understand the need of JPG for screenshots from the TV series, maybe the rule should consider the (rare) exceptions of Doctor Who old video games. Anyway, I'll just reupload them (and the GIF screenshot that I didn't upload but that went away too) as JPGs. They'll take more space and show artefacts but if it's necessary… Is that ok? I read the rest of the guidelines and everything else seemed fine. Best, -- Nicolas 01:10, July 12, 2013 (UTC)

Image question

Hey :) The line "we don't allow .png or .gif" is sort of the simplified version of the rule. It's good to use that line, and you should continue to use it. It's a simple, clear statement that is correct 99% of the time.

And indeed, there are truly no instances where a .gif is allowed.

But, there are some instances when we'll let in a .png, and the user has correctly hit upon one such exception. There's nothing wrong with a .png from a 20th century video game, which T:ICC hints at by saying ".png and .svg preferred for line drawings or when you need transparency". A video game from the 20th century really is just a line drawing. In fact it's probably simpler than a line drawing, because 20th century computer graphics had no real ability to show line thickness or pressure, which comes naturally when an artist draws on paper. So some of this user's pictures probably should be restored. (That said, I know I deleted one myself cause it seemed to be a duplicate. I don't really know why there were so many of them. Just one Splinx.png seems adequate to me.)

Digging a bit deeper in to his note to you, Nclm is a bit misleading when he says that ".jpgs take more space". I mean, it's technically true, but you have to have technical skill to make it true. In fact, the way that most amateurs use image editing software will tend to produce larger .pngs than .jpgs. You have to know more than is commonly known to get a 400 x 600 image to be a smaller .png than .jpg. So for video games of the 21st century — which are closer to genuine photography — .pngs aren't allowed.

Note, too, that Nclm also speaks of fewer artefacts — visual blemishes — in pngs. This is true, and an important point. This site exists purely because the BBC allows it to do so. We want artefacts in the .jpgs because such images are less likely to be used downstream for commercial purposes. While Wikipedia might disagree that we are doing enough to establish fair use for our image, the "no .png" rule is a conscious effort to "handicap" the image and make it useful only for illustrating things here. So this is a part of the reason why .pngs should be zapped just for being .pngs. I mean, yes, it's possible to get a .png of The Sea Devils to be less than 100kb. But it should be zapped anyway because all we're trying to do is to illustrate an article at the thumbnail level — not give an image that's sufficient for making a t-shirt.

Splinx.png is an exception because it's little more than a squiggly line.

The difficulty with trying to administer image rules is the same as trying to do any other kind of rule around here. We have editors of all different ages and abilities. And you can't really say something simple that is always true. So we have to go with rules that are true "over 90% of the time".

So you go on saying exactly what you said. And when you see a .png that doesn't obviously have transparency (i.e. checkerboard), don't hesitate to delete it. Nclm has found a tricky little exception, that's all.

User pages

Okay. Not a problem. I just figured getting rid of spoilers ASAP would be priority, but I will now gladly follow your guidelines if those are the rules. Note how I specifically just undid the edit rather than rewording it myself, to get as far away from breaking the rule as I could while still getting rid of the spoiler. I was thinking about leaving a message on their talk page, but I figured they'd have probably read that in the edit summary. I guess I've forgotten what being a new editor felt like by now.

Anyway, thanks for the information. I will come to you or any admin around from now on if faced with the same situation again. If you have any other problems with my editing, please feel free to let me know and I'll remedy the situation. :)

User subpage

Hi. Apparently, you found an old user subpage of mine that violates T:SPOIL. Huge misunderstanding here. I made that to demonstrate a possible series-like page for 50th celebrations, for Thread:124149. In Czech's last post on the thread, he said:

"I can't stop you from continuing the development of this page on subpages of your user page, but please don't put it in the main or any other namespace."'

I must have misinterpreted his message, but I took it that I could keep the page. So it's been mostly sitting there since then, though I did fix the linking to day pages a few days back. Apparently, T:SPOIL applies even to user subpages, so I just blanked the page the moment I found out.

I'm really, really sorry. I will be much more careful in the future!

Credits for audio

Why does the fact that most audio pages don't have credits mean I can't add them? I would add them all, but I only have a small number of CDs. Cult Of Skaro Here.|Communicate here. 22:20, July 20, 2013 (UTC)

Sontaran

Hello! About your template "What?" in the Sontaran page, what I meant is this: in The Time Warrior (as you know, first appearance of the Sontarans), the Third Doctor says he has already met Sontarans before. It is an undated event because I couldn't find previous adventures of the first three Doctors with them. (Sorry for my English!)--Michele 23:02, August 6, 2013 (UTC)

Mission to the Unknown

You're welcome! I was browsing the Loose Cannon site, and found that they mentioned the main MttU characters as some of their composites, so, remembering that those pages had images, I removed them.

By the way, the reason I was thinking of recons and Mission was that I was watching the official Galaxy 4 recon. At the end of this recon, we see a lead into Mission, with a composite of a Mission character. Would this be suitable for an illustration, as it is BBC approved? Spoiler removal

I wasn't actually completely sure if the "no editing user pages" rule extended to others' messages on user talk pages. Either way, regardless of the policy, I wanted to remove the spoiler ASAP — Czech has told me that he still does not know who the next Doctor is, and would like to keep it that way. Sorry for taking matters into my own hands, but I simply wanted it gone before he saw it.

If I knew you were around, I'd have gone to you immediately. I guess next time, I'll have to go to you and just hope you get the message soon enough.

Categories

Oops, I'm sorry, I'm still new to this! I saw that Romana and Braxiatel both had their own categories, so I thought I would add the other main characters. Is there a reason why we don't have companion categories? Why are Romana and Brax exceptions?

Re: Parts and Episodes

Hi Shambala108,

Just a quick note to apologize for my unintentionally capitalizing "part", "episode" and their numbers in my recent edits, which were mainly information about the photographs/illustrations accompanying the programme listings in Radio Times which I decided to add as I thought they deserved to be mentioned.

If I should go back to these pages to add any more info (which I probably will), I'll decapitalize the instalment(s) accordingly and will change any episode numerals to written form.

As I've seen episodes written with capitals and numerals in Doctor Who Magazine for some years, it'll be probably be hard to break this habit of a lifetime but rest assured I'll try harder in future.

While we're on the subject of 'no capitalization', please could you tell me if episode formats should also remain uncapitalized in the same way: 16mm black & white film, 16mm colour film, 625 line PAL colour videotape etc.?

Once again, I apologize.

I await your reply with great interest.

Re: Radio Times Notes

Hi Shambala108,

Just a quick note to apologize about my recent use of bold text in the 'Story notes' sections of story articles, namely those of the Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy era where I added info re. photographs (or cartoon in the case of Survival part one) which appeared along with the Radio Times programme listings.

I had done this merely to echo the original accompanying captions as published, where the transmission details were printed in this style, and didn't realize this went against the accepted use of bold text on the TARDIS Data Core.

As I've added all the aforementioned Radio Times details now, I can assure you there won't be any more improper use of bold text.

I await your reply with great interest.

Stubs

The stub policy states that any articles about stories without plot summaries are automatically considered stubs, and I'm fairly sure all the pages that I marked were lacking a full plot summary...

Not guilty!

Me again ... guess what... I havent been uploading spoiler covers again (and by again I mean - I haven't) :) When I created the page/s in question I may have placed the image space but if you have a look at history you'll see the image has been placed by someone else with the obvious file name. While I do disagree with aspects of the spoiler policy (mainly that this is a Doctor Who site that covers ALL aspects of Doctor Who (and related series') and not just the television adventures as broadcast on TV which excludes events, promotions and various periodicals which I feel should be exempt from 'story' spoilers, I have no intention of getting banned - even if it means much of my contribution will be on hold for three months (and unfortunately will mean these pages appear 'out dated') The Librarian 22:01, September 4, 2013 (UTC)

Cybermen (Mondas)

Hi there Shambala. There's an unregistered user who keeps deleting the information from Assimilation2 from the Cyberman (Mondas) page. I reverted it a couple times, but he's pretty persistent and I don't want to start an edit war. Is there any way you could either lock the page temporarily and/or reach out to him and let him know the information belongs there? Thank you :) TARDIStraveler 12:33, September 6, 2013 (UTC)

Re. Prefixes

Hi Shambala108,

Thank you for your hypercube of 13:41, September 23, 2013.

Sorry about removing the TV prefixes from the story citations as I did at A Romantic Evening and A Victorian Interlude. I had wrongly assumed that the normal link for identifying a TV story — e.g. The Talons of Weng-Chiang — would be enough to identify it as such when the cursor was placed on it, and that the TV was thus superfluous to requirements.

Anyway, thanks for pointing this out. Rest assured, I'll leave intact any TV prefixes I come across during future edits.

Non-Cura telesnaps

Sorry to take so long to respond to you on this point, but, yes, we make an exception for the non-Cura "Feast of Steven" snaps. I forget where we made this decision and don't have time to look it up now. But I do recall them being specifically discussed and approved.

Lifestyle is calling

Hey :) So I've just had a meeting with Ariana and Annette from the Lifestyle division of Wikia and we have a special task for you, if you're willing to accept it.

One of both of them will be in touch with you probably before the end of the week. It involves some delicate dancing around T:SPOIL and a sort of contest to help design the new Doctor's costume. But if anyone's up to doing that dance, surely it's you. I think all it's going to involve on our end is a little vague phraseology on our end — "Come dress the new Doctor" or somesuch — and a clear warning that if the user does click the link they might (or might not) be spoiled. I'll leave it to you to talk to Annette and Ariana and figure out a good way forward. But please do find some creative way forward, because it's helping both us and Wikia more tightly integrate.

I'm hoping that this little job will lead to you working more with Ariana and Annette on future projects.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to write back. But I doubt you will. Cause you rock.

Plagiarism question

Oh, I wasn't going to go "go back and forth and here or there" or anything like that. If it's bad enough to be considered plagiarism, salt it and begin from the bottom from watching the episode.

Honestly, even after two years and 21,000 edits of course, I have little confidence with how I write the in-universe pages, never mind the actual plot summaries. My focus, at least, will be on "is it plagiarism", and my own edits here and there on in-universe pages. -- Tybort (talk page) 00:47, September 27, 2013 (UTC)

Couldn't point out individual bits of dialogue word for word without interrupting other things I'm focusing on, but, from my recollection, and from the sentence immediately preceding the one you're confused about saying that Tosh isn't even sure whether or not he's American, the "think she's" bit is "thinks he's". -- Tybort (talk page) 17:58, September 29, 2013 (UTC)

Lifestyle ideas

While CzechOut was in the office last week, I had the pleasure of getting to spend some time brainstorming with him about ways we could do some fun lifestyle ideas with TARDIS Data Core. As a fellow Whovian, we had some fun with it. but he said that you would really be my best partner in crime on that sort of thing! He suggested I chat with you about a great idea we have to celebrate the upcoming 50th Anniversary episode.

Not sure if you're familiar with our Food Fiction program, but it's a shout out to communities to help us build the ultimate menu for your community. Here are some examples from South Park and Avatar. We thought it would be a blast to host a Food Fiction: Dr. Who Challenge themed around hosting a viewing party for the anniversary show at the end of November. It would start out by asking fans on the wiki to submit nominees for, say, a course or something from a specific season (like we did with Avatar's nations). Second, we'd build out polls on the Recipes Wiki that asks all of Wikia to vote on what they'd most like to eat.

We had also talked about an idea of hosting a Closet Confidential to dress the 12th Doctor. To adhere to the rules of TARDIS, we could wait until he or she is unveiled on the show in December. OR we could host the challenge without knowing what that Doctor looks like yet, and instead let folks' imaginations run wild. Closet works much like Food Fiction, where we ask users on the wiki itself to submit ideas and then we post polls on Fashion Wiki. Here's one we're running right now with Hunger Games and another we did last month with Austin & Ally Wiki.

I would love chat further about this. If you want to take this off your talk page, you can email me directly at [email protected]. Looking forward to working together more!

Hi, I'm TimeScarf. I only joined yesterday and I recently wrote an article about The Vegas Galaxies and it got changed by admins quite a bit. I understand that I wasn't writing in past tense which I changed but was the anecdote about the reference to Las Vegas not aloud? Sorry, I'm just trying to understand. Videos

Hello Shambala,

I saw that you deleted some videos that I posted to the wikia. That is fine, but I wanted to let you know that I am part of the Community Development Team at Wikia, and that the videos I uploaded are licensed videos passed along to me from the marketing department. If you are not interested in receiving licensed Dr. Who content, please let me know. If you are interested in the content, but would like to put it up yourself, let me know that, and I will pass the videos along directly to you.

Thanks! Nick<staff /> 20:46, October 22, 2013 (UTC)

Quick tech point: It is true that Staff sigs and log entries are all colour-coded in a sorta flax-gold colour. The reason that Nick's sig here is blue is because he's choosing to override our local CSS and make it blue. You can see his "normal" color by looking at the history of this page. His additions to the page do indeed reflect standard Staff gold, as they'll appear in any log. So the expanded Staff colour coding that was put in today is working.

DWM 465 cover

I don't see any reason why the cover for 465 should be blocked. The title of the audio story and the fact five Doctor actors discuss it I don't see as being a spoiler, as there's nothing about plot or anything given away, and there are no references to the new Doctor or the anniversary special elsewhere on the cover that would run afoul of the spoiler policy. 68.146.70.124talk to me 16:06, October 23, 2013 (UTC)

 • Assuming it was the "five Doctors" cover that violated the policy, the argument is now moot as Light at the End was just given an early (official) release by Big Finish, so there should be no reason to withold the 465 cover now. 68.146.70.124talk to me 23:34, October 23, 2013 (UTC)
Let me be clear on this: Do you want to put the cover back yourself, or do you want me to do something about it? Also, the page itself hasn't been created yet. Once it's created, it would probably need the spoiler warning like the one on the DWM 463 page. Thanks! Shambala108 00:43, October 24, 2013 (UTC)

Food Fiction plan

Hey there! We're nailing down some dates for when we think it's best to conduct the Food Fiction: Dr. Who challenge. Here's the idea. We'd like to get the menu that the community selects to be live well before the 50th Anniversary episode airs. I'm thinking we could put up a forum post on Nov. 4, asking the community to nominate foods to be included in the voting for the final menu. Then on Nov. 11, we'd take the nominated foods and put them into polls for voting. Then on Nov. 18, we'd announce the final menu. Would those dates work for you?

One other question - we usually like to create a menu of 4-5 items, and we select what those categories are based on the community. For Avatar, we did "nations." For South Park, we picked food categories featured in the show like "best fast food" and "best beverage." I'm trying to think of good categories for Dr. Who. Perhaps it could be 60s, 70s, 00s, 10s? Or perhaps it could be courses like main, beverage, etc? Would love your advice on this. Whatever we choose, we want to make sure folks can nominate a few foods in each, so we can build a real poll out of each.

Very excited for this! I think this'll be a great time.

DWM 465

Hi Shimbala, well the answer is yes no and maybe :) I have the image waiting but heres the rub - it promotes the (now being) released 'Light at the End' Big Finish Five Doctors adventure it could now be added as the release date was brought forward a month with distribution staggered untill next week. However as the wiki seems to be interpreting spoilers as any unreleased preview information I held off posting it. I'm still uneasy in my mind with the policy because I saw this site as a wiki for the Doctor Who brand and not just for the latest televised story. Too late now I know to reopen the arguement but with special broadcast shows and announcements, and handling of the 'brand' by the BBC perhaps this could be flagged up before the next major developement. Btw I challenge anyone NOT to already know (about him that we dare not speak off) unless they've been hiding in a box with no electricity for the past few months :) Let me know ... Hi. I just did that because on the opening theme of the episode it actually read "Part One" instead of "Part one". Also the episode headers on this wiki are really messed up. Quite often I find that it reads "Part 1", when it should be "Part One". Lego Whovian 18:52, November 1, 2013 (UTC)

Christmas cheer

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
