Francois de Noailles

Francois de Noailles was the Bishop of Dax and the brother of the French ambassador to England. Although a Catholic, he secretly supported Reverend Thomas Smith's plot to remove Queen Mary I from power in 1555. He believed that having her half-sister Elizabeth on the English throne would mean England would ally with France instead of Spain. He turned against Smith when the plot was exposed.
