The King of Sontar was the first story in the third series of Fourth Doctor Adventures.

- This story was recorded on 18 July 2012.
- This is the first audio story to pair the Fourth Doctor with the Sontarans; previously, Big Finish have used Sontarans with the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors.
Continuity
- The Doctor tells Leela that the Time Lords once sent him into a war zone on Skaro to avert the creation of the Daleks. (TV: Genesis of the Daleks)
- Rosato refers to the Human-Draconian War. (TV: Frontier in Space)
- Leela meets the Sontarans again during the invasion of Gallifrey, although the events of this audio drama contradict this as during this time Leela seems to be unfamiliar with Sontarans. (TV: The Invasion of Time) However, this could be explained as the Sontarans Leela encounters in this adventure are explicitly described as not wearing their usual armour, and she never hears their species identified by name.
