General Frank Hobson was Jo Grant's uncle. He helped her get a job at UNIT.

- As revealed in Jim Mortimore's notes for the unreleased Fear of Light, Hobson was going to become a recurring villain in the Lethbridge-Stewart book series. He would have been a former friend of Lethbridge-Stewart from Sandhurst, but has since become an amoral agent of British military intelligence.
