John Quarrington was an English soldier who wanted information from the Fifth Doctor and Vislor Turlough on a mysterious lost city. He sought a crystal which had mystical powers. The crystal turned out to be a Time Lord data crystal and the city was in fact Gostak's TARDIS. He died in a collapsing dune. (AUDIO: The End of the Beginning)
